First, there was Beatmania. Just plain old Beatmania with 5 buttons, and not very impressive hardware. Then Konami made Beatmania II. It used a DVD player to show relatively high quality FMV backgrounds, and had 7 keys instead of 5. At first there were two different types of cabinets. One was smaller and less impressive. There was also the deluxe cabinet with better speakers, the LED scroll display, a larger control panel, etc. So IIDX is the deluxe cabinet version of the Beatmania II series. The original non-DX cabinet was phased out at some point.

I do believe the non-deluxe cabinet was called "SX" but don't quote me on that (But it wasn't dubbed "IISX", rather simply "Beatmania II"). I don't remember where I heard that from.
Like David said, they're phased out, but if you dig around, you can still find a very few lingering around in arcades (most likely not in the U.S.). _________________
