Are all metal pads significantly less sensitive than the arcade or soft pads?

I had a red octane metal pad (sent it back recently with some problems) and had to step with some authority to get steps to register. This made it difficult to do songs like rhythm and police heavy where you have to cross-over since it's difficult to put some force behind cross-over steps.

Was this just my pad? Would I have a had more luck with a different brand? It was easier to play on the arcade pad.

No. My Cobalt Flux is more sensitive than any arcade pad I've played on, and it's over 16 months old now.

This is happening with my pad, too. I'm thinking about selling my RO for $160 on eBay and then saving up a wad of cash to buy the Cobalt Flux.
