Over the short time of using a soft pad at home, I have grown to hate soft pads to all hell. Not having the money currently to buy a nice CF (saving up for one though riiight.gif ), some of the worse times have happened using those damned pads. Just wanted to know what are the worse times you have had on a soft pad

My 320 pound ex-friend not picking his feet up while flailing about on Have You Never Been Mellow Easy (1 footer). He slid his feet around and tore a foot and a half gash in the bottom of the pad.

(Oh, that's not why he's my ex-friend, by the way.)

I played Holic six times in a row on Heavy and afterwards the MadCatZ pad's bottom was shredded. It was sad, but hey - it was an old pad. E10.gif That's why I was testing its endurance.

Not sure if it's really "worst", since I ended up better off, but my wife and I use two Ignition pads. Mine started flaking on me a few months after we got it, and I ended up opening the sucker up and replacing the layer of foam between the contact sheets with a more durable foam. (Cutting little holes in foam, by the way, is a good definition of Not Fun.) Also have spent time duct taping the contact sheets to uncrinkle them, added additional material to the insert layer to fill the pad and keep the top taut, added nylon patches to the top surface to repair three seperate splits in the material, and most recently have added a plastic cover to the pad to keep those splits from getting worse.

My wife's pad started acting up a little while ago, so it now has tape reinforced contact layers, new foam, and a plastic cover. Oh, and the plug on her pad ended up having a pin go defective, so I had to sacrifice a cheapo used controller on the altar of technical experimentation, and put a new plug on the existing cord. I'm hoping to avoid getting the splits in hers since we've covered it before problems appeared.

Of course, all this work has yielded pads which are actually much more responsive and accurate than they were out of the box, which is why I can't really call it my worst experience. When my first pad started giving trouble, we actually picked up another one, which was X-Box compatible, but it's had foam issues since day one. Will probably go in for surgery on that one soon. Then I can buy a fourth and play Quad Mode. E1.gif

E19.gif My soft pads aren't getting torn, but the buttons are starting not to work. My favorite pad's back button doesn't work hardly at all unless you put your foot in this 1 exact spot. On my other pad the side ones are starting to become like that, but not near as bad. I was having a little trouble with my 3rd and last pad last night, but it may have just been my footing. I'll have to use it more to find out.

I went through 2 soft pads, silly me. laugh.gif
All in dramatic ways.
First pad I tried doing Max 300, I slipped and my head went crashing into the Gamecube. My head didn't fare to well, neither did the pad.
Second pad died because of a big gash on the bottom of the damn thing, shredded the wires.

*edit* why the hell is my GC mention in green and linked?

It was the dance mat that came with ddrmax2...(I thought it was actually good)...Over the summer I brought it ti a gaming club that I go to at the library. People must've been putting so much pressure on it from max 300 and all those songs that the down button doesn't work anymore....may it rest in piece....that's why I'm getting the metal pad.

My question is, how did you get DDR on Gamecube?

Madcatz Beatpad Pro left arrow being flakey ... wouldn't register 1/3 of the time .... NOT TO MENTION that madcatz pads are completely incompatible with PCs for SM! >.<

Slipping and falling while using a 20 dollar soft pad, foot got caught on the cord and pulled the PS2 out of the TV thingy, and my memory card (the cord for the controller came out) went with a certain crunch. Thank god it was PSX, aka, it's never missed.

PS2 was fine, still works 100% ok E13.gif

Oh Fun, ok, i was playing the regular Trip Mashine and was spinning on the easy parts. And i got into it, and i broke the control box built into soft pads(you know witht he little red lights). It just completly snapped in half. This was when i weighed about 100 pounds also.

Lol. Ive seen im not the only one fed up wit these things....

Simply the arrows go dead when i play on heavy mode or standard for that matter...so i took a knife and cut the wear the arrow and the edge of the pad meet. From there I stuck my hand in and unstuck the foam pads that were originally under each arrow (when I first got the pad it gave the feel that the arrows were "lifted" from the center, thats because there is a plastic foam piece under each of them to give the arrows a lift). After mashing them and storing them incorrectly all the foam moved to the center. So I unstuck them n dragged them back into place. I seem now to get more response out of my pad so i can actually play at home, but i still get an arrow failure every so often. So heres a tip for if your soft pad starts to miss arrows, just move the foam mini pads to thier original spots and the pad will get better response...I can't wait to get a cf....

i've gone through 4 soft pads! my first two worked great until one of my friends stepped on the little black box on top and broke it. then the otherone the sensors stopped working. i then went out and bought 2 new foam pads. they lasted a little longs but in the end the sensors also broke. right now i'm using my newest metal pads. well metal pad. on one of them 3 of the sensors are broken (that makes me super pissed off cause i payed $200 for each pad)

My worst experience was when I just beginning to move onto standard and still hadn't gotten my balance down, I leaned to far forward and had the pad slide back while my forehead went straight into the TV. I was with a bunch of my friends and they said I was only out for about 5 minutes. Tv still works fine though. Later my friend had the pad slide out to the side, he and another buddy of mine were playing versus, they ended up colliding and my buddy broke his leg. In the end though I ended up getting a CF so i guess it worked out.

i have 2 soft pads that i got from UM 1 and 2 bundles. the one i have had for a year and still works just fine, and doesn't even slip that much. the other one which is much newer also works great. my friend, however, has already gone through 4 soft mats on his ps2. the down arrow on all of them is broken. i also know other people who has a broken down arrow. my friends metal mat also has a broken down arrow. but my pads seem to work just fine.
