|
|
Ok, I know, why did I pick DDR? (Because I have no life........)
Ok, The experiment is the rate of change in cellular respiration when excercising. Now, Me and my friend are gonna be the one dancing, but I have a question.
What will be the variable? Every Experiment has to have a control group, and an experimental group! What will I do in the experimental group?
Thanks for the help, oh, and I'm new, so HI! |

You need more people, and they should just be in the room, but not playing. In other words, you want to prove that it's the exercise that causes the change, not just the music and flashing lights. |

Thanks, but I'm not sure how that would affect the rate of cellular respiration. Sorry if I seem stupid......... |

It wouldn't... but the point of your experiment is to PROVE that |

If you want to, you could also have some people running around the room. You might want to note how many calories/hour everyone's burning as well. _________________

Ok! I'm kind of getting what your saying, Slowpoke! So I can get more Ideas, here's the science project:
How Activity affects the rate of cellular Respiration:
In this project, I will see if activity has anything to do with the change of ATP in someone's breath. This will tell me if Cellular Respiration has been affected by an individual's activity. My test subjects will do certain things, such as sitting down, relaxing, or Playing DDR.
Ok, I'm a Freshman IN Biology honors, so my project has to be impressive. Anyways, I thought that my variable could be temperature change, such as having a fan in the room.
Also, Thanks John Bono.
Any more ideas? |

You could definitely do that too... but then the experiment wouldn't be "the rate of change in cellular respiration when playing DDR", it would be "how do external factors affect the change in cellular respiration when playing DDR"... or you could measure the change when playing songs of various difficulty... see if there is a smooth correlation between the number of feet and what you're measuring. That could be interesting... |

you would each have to use the same pad, the same TV, and the same song and the same difficulty, grade, and rate. Seems hard. _________________

Not really, since we both are at an equal level, and we'll switch at each song selection. |

i mean, it will be pretty difficult (and get boring quickly) having to get the exact same grade and the exact same steps. I am saying this from a scientist's point of view. Trust me. You do not want that many (if any at all) extraneous variables. _________________

Thanks for the warning, but all experiment proposals handed in cannot be changed, so I'm screwed. yet, what do you think should be my variable in the experiment (rate of change in cellular respiration during acitivies)? |

your dependent variable could be the cellular respiration
your independent could be i dont know. _________________

The independent variable can be the foot level of the song. Make a graph or something comparing the difficulty of the song and the rate of respiration. |

Well have two groups? one playing hard songs and one playing easy songs.
then compare them and how moving your feet faster and jumping causes you to burn off more energy/joules and how that is proportional to the song.
Graph them and compare. _________________

How would you go about measuring cellular respiration? I asked my doctor and he said it was impossible. And about the ATP in someone's breath? You don't breath ATP. |
