Because then people can't see why it was locked and learn from it. _________________

Also, I'd say that a lot of people want to retrieve some information from the thread that's been locked if they didn't know it was going to be locked, and if they were deleted immediately, what everyone's written on there would be lost forever. _________________

Well, I can see the valid reasons for not deleting a locked thread... however, there are also some threads that have no value after being locked. I recall recently some guy went into every forum on ddr freak and posted the same thread on each (titled "..." with the same text inside the thread). Threads like those are just a waste of board space (Incidentally, I clicked on that guys profile, and obviously he was banned, but he had 72 warning points!)
I think mods should delete locked posts that are completely worthless. It wouldn't do too much, but it would make somewhat of a difference.

Nothing should ever be deleted. Think of posterity, man. |

yeah i know what guy youre talking about. he was originally posting a link i think. and yeah ppl are always saying and i agree that mods should delete the REALLY OLD threads and the ones that say "please lock" or some crap. but the thing to remember is that they havent dont it yet, so we cant do nothing about it. basically, we might as well be postwhoring every time we ask to delete locked threads. if and when the mods DO do it, theyll do it(that sounded SO right). so all we can do is either wait for them to say yes or become mods, delete the threads, and leave forever. but like anyone will do THAT _________________

For example, some people tried to bring a complaint up that I was overlocking topics because they claimed that Page 2 of the relevant forum (I think it was Consoles, might've been Arcades) was almost *all* locks, all of them by me. I countered with the point that the reason it looks that way is because all the conversation in proper threads was keeping those threads afloat, and that there hadn't been many useful threads which died down into Page 2 to push them down. Basically, it wasn't that I was locking a lot, so much that people were keeping the existing threads afloat, and some of the locks on Page 2 were a month old or more.
Since locked threads are reply-locked for users, it's only natural that the lead anchors sink and fail to bob back up. _________________

Can we just stick this in the FAQ or something since I'm kind of annoyed seeing so many of these threads.
JEEBUS.
Locked threads are not removed from the forums because then the person in which posted the locked thread can then see the things they did wrong so they can correct it. This is also true if a locked thread is not moved to a proper forum as then that person can know that that thread shouldn't have of been posted in that particular forum and so they dont go "Hur? Where's my thread?"
Okay, I'm done.

I have a suggestion. When you guys lock a topic, why don't you either..
1. Lock it, delete it, and send that member a pm explaining why it was locked. Or...
2. Do the same thing as 1 only instead of deleting it you send it to a board specifcally for locked topics. That way they won't be in the way. |

I'm thinking of going through Site Feedback and making an announcement that's a list of commonly asked questions. Such as this one, why we don't move threads, why we don't have a comments section in Machine Locations, why we don't have a flame forum, etc etc. _________________

commonly asked questions. huh. if ppl arent reading the faq, interest them in a caq. its actually a good idea because then ppl will be like "what the hell is a caq?" and then theyll read it and maybe 25% of those who read it will remember and post correctly without geting their topics locked. _________________

Yeah, if people don't read the FAQ I think they might read Stickies and Announcements. If not, you need to make it a warnable offence if you can't read. _________________

It's also something that we can link to so we don't have to type the same answer out every time. _________________
