the memberlist is horrible... plain and simple...
I'm looking through for one name... and all i have to go on is...
SFETEAZ
which i know isn't the members right name. This is actually my 3rd attempt at using the memberlist before. we really need some sort of better sorting. or a search. I want to be able to view... just the vivid members. or something like that. _________________

Pretty sure phpBB 2.2 adds this. _________________

Do you guys delete members after non-posting for a certain period of time?? I'm just wondering, because I chose a not-really-common username and would like to use it permanently, but I never see the user of the name post, ever, on any forum. _________________

Would you mind explaining what you did to find that member's profile? I haven't been able to find a member's profiles without finding a post of theirs.
BTW I did look for an answer to this question for about 10 min doing searches and scrolling through 15 pages of the memberlist sorted by name, the FAQ and 3 pages of the site feedback forum. So I'm sorry if this question is answered elsewhere. _________________

No, usually when we're searching for someone's profiles, we have to do it the hard way too. It sucks that phpBB 2.0 doesn't let you do text searches for a member's profile.
There is one cheap-o way around it.
Open your PM inbox, and send a PM to the person. You can use the Search tool there to make sure you get the right spelling/punctuation. Send the PM. Then check your Outbox. phpBB will link in the person's profile there. You can click into the profile, and then delete the PM. Of course, if that person has E-mail notifications turned on, he/she will still receive an e-mail saying that they got a PM, but that's one way to do it if you really need to track someone down.
I usually just use the Memberlist, and I jump ahead 1000 entries at a time until I can narrow it down. What *really* sucks is when someone uses lots of decorative punctuation in their username, because it's hard to know how that gets sorted in the A-Z order. _________________

I found that profile because I knew where he had posted recently, so I went to that page.
If you were to ask me to find someone who only posts in some regional forum, that would be a little bit harder. I don't know EVERYONE here _________________

DPS, you must be really on top of the boards to remember something like that!
But that won't work for me. I goof off too much already. Can't turn into one of those housewife internet addicts whose family goes to pot and such.
So I appreciate that suggestion of Cutriss's about sending a pm (mad props, dawg - got that from my slang flashcards, no kidding) That worked great. But Cutriss, you said something about jumping ahead 1000 names- that's the right order of magnitude, given that there are 1500 pages of the memberlist, and tons of names on each page, but how exactly do you jump ahead 1000 names? I only see choices in the lower right of go to page 1,2,3......149x, 149(x+1), etc.
thanks once again for answering these really basic questions _________________

Actually sfetaz is a better known member on the forums. Some of the popular members are easier to find than others. _________________

That's for page 2 of the memberlist. See the "start=30?" Change that to 1030 and it skips ahead 1000 users. |
OMG you're talking about the URL itself! I would never have thought to look there. That kind of thing never occurs to us inexpert board members. What a cool trick!
