Ok so im sure everyone knows about Donkey Konga by now. In japan they have already released Donkey Konga 2! Crazy stuff. But has anyone played/seen/heard of TaikonoTatsujin (namco) in arcades or for the ps2? Now i recently went on a shopping spree in Hong Kong and discovered this game in the Japan and Hong Kong arcades. Its basically like donkey konga, but instead u use two drum sticks to hit the taiko drum to the beat of the song. Here are some pictures of the game. U can see how similar it is to Donkey Konga

Heres one of Donkey Konga:

Now i dont believe TaikonoTatsujin will be coming to the states anytime soon so i guess we will have to do with imports for the ps2 and arcade. Anyawys post what u think of either game here. Ive only experienced playing taiko so i cant compare it to donkey konga. Those of u who were lucky enough to play both post which one is better. _________________

Any music game that has the Mario theme is great in my book. The donkey konga has a great selection of songs. In my opinion, Nintendo chooses better licinsed songs that Konami does. (Even though they both picked Busy Child. Go figure) |

the conga drums are very very crappy, and break if you hit them too hard. So i don't think you'll be getting blisters
and if you're getting then on TNT, you're doing something wrong. I pray to god you aren't using your hands to play, i mean, use the sticks man _________________

After only one full round (three songs), my hands will begin to ache because of those sticks. After a few more rounds, blisters will begin to form because of the sticks.
I need to remember gloves... _________________

Donkey konga has the Zelda theme as well. Not to mention the Kirby Anime theme. (not that we really wanted that) |

Wait u mean u dont use ur hands for TNT?
No but if the drums are that crappy maybe they arent worth buying the game.....maybe i should stick to TNT since i got the drums and the US version is comin soon anyways. I would only want DK cuz it has many of my fav nintendo themes. Probably not worht the 60-70 bucks for the drums and game tho....... _________________

Agh both games have bad songlists IMO. I think Taiko Drum Master has a few redeeming songs and so does Donkey Konga... but both are rather bad songwise. I gotta decide which I want more... Toxic or Super Mario Bros. theme! _________________

Well, Konami and Namco think alike because they both licensed Tubthumping! ~angry people throw things at her for even mentioning that song~
If I had a GameCube and a ps2, I'd definitely get Taiko, because Taiko is awesome, and the classical music section. Hungarian Dance No. 5...~drools~ |

Yes thats a good one indeed. THe classics are fun, but once u unlock the super hard mode thing it gets even harder. My wrists begin to hurt me like hell. But i still think the Taiko will do better.... _________________

Well to answer ur first quesition, i dont even know which versions i have, but i have 2 of them. I know one of them is the most recent (number 6?) and that has the best interface and probably one of the better songlists. Is it fun to play? Extremely. Especially once u think uve mastered the songs and then an ultra hard mode (almost like an oni mode) becomes available. It is definately a fun game. If u like rythm games (which im assuming u do since ur on ddrfreak) then ull love it. U have to enjoy giving ur hands a run for their money though. On the hard ones u gotta move ur hands and the sticks fast like mad.
Also i just recieved my september issue of NP and i didnt like what i saw with the drum size of donkey konga.......Its reall tiny. And the thing with the clap.....i dunno. Do GCNs play burnt games :-) |

I find Taiko no-Tatsujin more challenging than Donkey Konga. However, the US version I played at E3 seemed more challenging to me on Intermediate mode than the JPN version I imported on hard mode. There are songs in Taiko I cannot pass yet, but I can pass every single song in the JPN Donkey Konga on the first try.
The good thing about the clapping in Donkey Konga is that you don't ACTUALLY have to clap, you can just hit the side of the controller. The microphone is quite sensitive, which is bad if you're in a loud area, as everything around you will pick up the sound and you'll be "clapping" all the time.
Donkey Konga comes out here on September 28th, Taiko Drum Master on October 6th. I'll be getting both to add to my JPN collection I already have... |

You can set the sensitivity in the options. _________________
