I've played quite a few DDR games and I've noticed that most of the popular licensed songs (non-Konami songs) originated from Europe or North America. It just hit me recently that I haven't noticed any songs from popular Japanese groups. Can they just not license these songs or what? Maybe there are some there that I'm just not familiar with.

To license a song you'd have to speak with the artist and pay them royalties. What I believe is either the artist or artists didn't agree or want their music to be in DDR or they wanted too high of an amount that Konami simply wouldn't pay.

The reason for artists not wanting their music in DDR is that they don't want to be forever associated as the artists that were in DDR. They don't want to think that they only got famous/whatever because of DDR, etc.

Yeah well those people would be STUPID! laugh.gif E13.gif It seems like 2Unlimited (known for Twilight Zone, Tribal Dance and others) got popular around the time their music was put into the US version of the SNES game BioMetal. I don't think they got a whole lotta radio play and I'm not sure that BioMetal had much to do with it but that song "Get Ready For This" has been played to death since the early-90's at sporting events and on television. I bet they're swimming in royalties.

I guess what's become normal in the US and I guess Europe (popular music in video games) hasn't become so popular in Japan.
