lagging problem for stepmania

When i play stepmania, the game lags for about 10 secs, then freezes, and goes back to normal again. The arrows in between are missed so my score is low. Does anyone know how to fix this?

Try closing applications in the background that you're not using. It could be a lack of RAM (helped by doing the above or fixed by simply buying more RAM...which I need to do...) or a severly outdated graphics card.

Like he said, it's probably a problem with not having enough RAM. Try the following:

1) If you are using characters, turn them off.
2) If you are using background animations, turn them off.
3) If you are using a skin, revert to the default.
4) If you are using an announcer, turn it off.
5) Run the program at a lower resolution.
6) Reinstall the program or get a later version if one exists (i.e. get SM A2x if you are not already running the latest version).
7) Buy a new graphics card, more RAM, or a new computer.
8) Play DWI.

I would suggest doing them in that order. If nothing else, DWI should be your absolute last resort. You MUST resist the darkness.
