Beatmania IIDX...
It's hard to get started on though.
Pop'n Music is also good and easier to get started on then beatmania IIDX, but you might not like the music, it's EXTREMELY Japanese. _________________

If you don't know what you want, get Pop'n Music (8 or 9). IIDX is a good choice too if you're prepared to deal with the often brutal difficulty of the game.
The home versions of KBM, GF, and DM are really good, but there are very few of them (2 KBMs, 2 GFs, 1 DM, and 2 GF/DM combo releases). Unless you're a fan of those series or you want to play them desperately, hold off for now.

I have a strong sense of rythym and i play drums (in real life) but i also played keyboard and keyboard style instruments (like xylophone, bass metallophone, and glock) i saw a beatmania IIDX video for sakura. and i saw a keyboardmania video. I dont mind an insane challenge. BM IIDX controllers are so expensive and i dont want to get a garbage rave discman con. _________________

Pop'N, thats what i have to say. I can't stand IIDX because of its difficulty, and Pop'N can be enjoyed by anyone. It's alot of fun, has wide music genera's and also can be harder then IIDX (So im told). _________________

Yeah ive narrowed it down to beatmania IIDX or popn because the gameplay appeals to me. I love a crazy challenge but IIDX is pricey. And the gameplay in keyboardmania, and guitar freaks looks a little sloppily executed _________________

Not at all. They both play great, and are a nice change from the "press these buttons in time with the music" mechanic.

Pop'n Music is a lot more fun for me than IIDX, but Ive never played on the Popn small controllers so I don't know if it would still be the same to me. The IIDX regular and arcade size controller both are fun to play on however. _________________

hmmm this is a little hard for me because id have to go out of state to try out beatmania. As for PopN i have no idea where one is. PopN is definitely the cheapest. As for controllers I JUST want something STRONG and responsive. I dont give a damn if its an ASC. Small popN cons are very cheap. Keyboardmania is VERY pricey. I dont want to spend a lot of money on a controller. I probably will eventually. AND will i be able to play harder songs on a rave discmman because those buttons look small. _________________

I'm sure if it was sold for profit, Konami would clamp down on it (I'm sure it's a matter of time before they clamp down on ITG).[/quote]

I started playing Pop'n on an ASC, and i couldnt picture playing it any other way. _________________

Small controllers work fine if you've never played before. Don't listen to them. Heh.

never played an ASC before probably never will. Also why is the rave discman so bad? small size? durability? Buttons? someone just point it out so i know. _________________

Buttons are clumsy (and small), turntable doesn't respond well, and it's way too stiff. It's not even worth the $15 to find out for yourself how bad it is, because you won't be able to pass the easiest of songs with it.

If you never play Pop'n on an ASC, you're only experiencing about 13% of the game's actual awesomeness. The small controller is acceptable if you've never played on an ASC only because you have no idea what you're missing. Seriously, just save up for a Ransai...it's so worth it. _________________

I've played in the arcade. I'd say with my small controller, I'm getting at least 75% of the daily recommended allowance of awesomeness.

keep in mind that ive never played popn or beatmania in my life! So im not gonna buy a $100+ controller you gotta start small and build. Is this a good con? http://www.lik-sang.com/image.php?category=22&products_id=4913&img=ps2-discjockey
As for pop'n i know its better with the dome buttons so you are poppin so to speak. _________________

The only real option for IIDX is the official Konami controller (unless you can build a better one cheaper). I've not heard a single rave review about any 3rd party Beatmania controller.
The Konami small PNM controller is very well made, so I'm told. And you can kind of play IIDX with it if you're desperate. Heh.
