Anyone have it yet?
I do and it's hella fun
Reminds me a bit of Para Para Paradise but really makes me think of Dance: UK .
One thing that's really annoying about it is the poopy of menus you have to go through to play the next song AND is that IT ISN'T CHANGEABLE
5 Unlockable songs are:
Asereje / Las Ketchup
The Anthem / Good Charlotte
Keep On Moving / Five
Rubberneckin' (Paul Oakenfold Mix) / Elvis
Addicted to Bass / Puretone
(Thanks to Kung Fu Dude for pointing that out because apparantly I can't read )
If I was to make a reveiw (more of a mini review) on the game here it is
Gameplay - 9.5
The system has never been tried before and it's defiantly all-new, but sadly, the gameplay is very unstable to a point, and, like IIDX, this game a pretty damn steep learning curve (took me like 3 hours to understand how to do it right ). But overall it is hella fun once you get to the harder modes.
Navigation - 4.0
Absolutley (sp?) horrible. You cannot use the PS2 controller in the Menus, its all done by hand....motion.....things..... The navigation is also pretty unstable, it does't make picking songs to easy (ESPECIALLY if your friend is over )
Camera Sensitivty/Quality - 9
What I mean by this is how well the camera responds to your movements. I have my sensitivity on high but its actually TOO high.... . The camera does it's job flawlessly otherwise, just a little too sensitive (no matter what sensitivty option you have on).
Load Time (YES, this IS a category ) - 5
WOW, REALLY LONG.......30-45 seconds to load a song after you go through the 3 menus after you've choosen it. When the game starts up it loads for like 35 seconds before ANYTHING happens Guess all the dancing people in that vid takes some load time .
Replay Value - 9
I've only had it for three days, but I think I'll be coming back for a looong time .
Music (here's the big one) - 8
The grade is not based on my opinion, if it was it'd be like a 3 (I only like about 5 songs on it, but they are VERY fun ). Okay so the music in the game will satisfy many people's tastes, but not all. It's pretty varietied and that's great for only 28 songs.
Overall Grade - 7
Don't get it if your not totally obsessed with music games like I am. You should somehow try it first, but now that we know DDR Extreme US will have Eye Toy stuff in it, why not pick it up? It's very addicting and very fun once you get past the learning curve. The music will grow on you too (if you play a lot of songs) so definatly give it a try, it's more fun because it's so different....and..........um.....................rar.

If you read the manual, you'd notice that you can unlock the five fastest songs by playing all of the other songs. _________________

Yes, I have the game. It's fun, but I have a few qualms with it.
One is the low music selection. Only 28 songs? At least they're longer than your average DDR song.
Too easy. Even though it's tough to get perfects, it's almost impossible to lose on the easy and normal difficulties. They oughtta penalize misses more severely.
No trance. C'mon, if you're going to make a dance game, at least put a little more trance in. Where's DJ Sammy or Lasgo?
If they make a sequel, I hope there are over 30 songs the next time. I also think songs such as "Funky Town" or "She Blinded Me With Science" would be great. _________________

Yea, trance is definatly a MUST if a sequal is to be released, and also other mainstream dance songs like (OMG Imma sound sound so much like a fanboy here) :
Love at First Sight / Kylie Minogue
Heaven / DJ Sammy
Do You Miss Me / Jocelyn Enriquez
Castles in the Sky / Ian Van Dale
Then the other songs that would be cool to have in the next one
The Sound of Goodbye / Armin Van Buuren
Angel of Darkness / Alex C. featuring Yasmin K.
All That She Wants / Ace of Base (OMG yes!! )
As the Rush Comes / Motorcycle
Wow, I think I have way too much time on my hands
The real problem I have with it is all the damn menus, and no way to shut them off, its freakin' rediculous. There are so many menus I actually stop playing because its so annoying, lmao...........

You can use the controller for the menus. It mentions it in the manual, although only briefly. Hold the left analog stick in the direction of the choice you want, and hit X. Use the D-Pad for going through lists like the songs or name entry.

i think it's amazing that there are even 28 songs!!! because look at it this way....you know karaoke revolution? it has 35 songs, but they are not the real songs, just the same music but different singers, not the real artists! Eyetoy Groove songs are all real songs by the real artists!!!!!!!

I'm not amazed... It's Sony! They have one of the biggest record labels on the planet... i'm pretty sure they'd have licensed music. Never dis Karaoke Revolution... It's such an awesome concept: Take Karaoke, make it an awesome game series in Japan, make it crappier for the US like they always do. What can be better?
I still have to ask where music games are going next... Synthasizer Revolution? BanjoFreaks? Empty Glass Jug Mania?! Who knows? I just can't wait to see it!

Finally picked it up myself, too. Not too bad, for a small track selection. The icons can be really hard to follow in "Hard" mode, at least if you're new to it (even if you've played stuff like PPP or DMX). As for the tracklist... I'd say it hits me around a "3/10" in personal taste as well. It certainly has its variety; and for those whining about genres mentioned before, and least it has ANY of them at ALL. Personally, I'd go for more New Wave, Hip-Hop, Rock, and Rave songs. Most of which are completely neglected.
The "wavey" menus are a major PitA, and you spend more time wiggling fingers to choose stuff than you do playing the game itself. Load times are excruciating, too. I do wish the EyeToy had a zoom setting and/or alternate lens, as my bedroom (where I play) is cram-packed, and only 8 ft. wide to BEGIN with (before considering the space my bed takes up!). Half the time I played for the first hour, my ceiling fan scored (and mistimed) every upper sensor hit! "Holds" are a little weird too, because you can't just "hold your hand or whatever there", it has to be in perpetual motion, AND within that teeny circle (I say teeny because again, I have ~5 ft. of distance to play within).
One thing I disagree with is the "play everything to unlock everything" point. Using a very diverse soundtrack means even though it will have appeal to everyone; there will also be tracks that are unappealing to everyone. Something music gamers must (and have) come to terms with, like characters in SF/KoF that nobody uses. They're still there, but the gameplay dynamic doesn't MAKE you use them to achieve unlocks (most of the time, anyhow; sans Tekken). Replaying songs on alternate difficulties should suffice for playing additional tracks, IMHO; and the tracks unlocked should be associated with the musical taste of those played.
And finally, the icons on harder difficulties could stand to move a little faster, too. Most motion-sensor reflex games would benefit from this, as it takes quicker reflexes to keep up with faster targets, and within tighter time constraints because of it.
Once you get used to it's pace, though; it's a decent game through and through. Certainly worth the time and money to experience, and the game has plenty of fun potential. The tracklist could use more of an upbeatness to it, as well; but that's what sequels are for. And I'm hoping the next one knocks this one's block clean off.
Also to consider: Wouldn't it be hella cool to see yourself as a illustrated 3D-polygon, flat-person sprite, or cel-shaded character? At least more than seeing yourself as a mirror-image? Cameras aren't too naturally friendly to people; hence why a take on movies is never done without a minimum of 15 lbs. of makeup used. (So don't feel bad if the screen doesn't flatter you the way screenshots on the box flatter "them"...) |
