right now im short on money, and have the option to either (A) buy a red octane metal pad, and mod it, or (B) get 2 soft red octane Ignition pads. i want to start getting into doubles, but im wondering if getting two ignition pads will hinder my ability to practice singles. i spend about half of my time practicing at home, the other half at the arcade (to give you an idea of my current ability level, i regularly get A's on "A" by DJ Amuro and get A's/B's on "Healing Vision (Angelic Remix)").
i know the responsiveness of ignition pads will never come close to an arcade machine, but i dont mind not being able to AAA a song at home as long as i can do it at the arcade. my question is wether or not i'll still be able to improve by practicing with ignition pads at home/would i be way better off practicing with a metal pad? im leaning towards getting the ignitions just so i can bring them to parties and stuff. any suggestions/experiences from people who have gone from metal to soft or visa versa would be greatly appreciated. thanks a lot.
edit: sry didnt really know wether to put this in soft or hard pad discussion, so just left it in the general console forum.

I use my metal pads for solely practicing for the arcade. I'm trying to build enough stamina and synchronization for the very difficult songs with the extra weight on my feet.
I use my ignition pads for doubles, dorm, and taking it to places. Since I'm not wearing shoes and greater sensitivity, I can do the difficult songs w/ ease.
As for soft pads being able to train you for arcade... Probably for the offbeat notes like xenon but not really for stamina and synchro. Metal pads are the most ideal to make progress at the arcades. If you really want to take DDR to places, then go for ignition pads. Evaluate which you want to do more.
Would it be possible to get both? If there were cheaper/just as good pads just w/o warranty, would that make getting both a possibility. For example, if you went to ebay, you can get them for (140+55 = $195 shipping included). So when you decide which you want to get, refer to the appropriate pad thread to see whats the bestbuy for a pad. |
