Hello. I'm a DDR noob and was hoping you guys would be kind enough to help me out. I'm, for lack of a better description, very fat. I recently started a diet and I've been wanting to play DDR for a while now, so I figured nows as good a time as any, seeing as it lets me game and excercise at the same time. So I ordered Ultramix for Xbox and a pad(I believe it was a Level Six non-slip) off ebay, but after I prdered I noticed it said "Supports up to 300 pounds". Well, I'm over 300 pounds. Well over. So, I was wondering if this is really an issue or not. If it is, will modding help? Or are there some other decently priced pads I can try? Please let me know what you think, and thank you for your time. |

1.Yes your weight will/might break the pad but there is help. There are mods for soft pads. That might help.
2.You could buy a metal pad.
Modding will help. If you dont want to break the arrows change the acryilc with lexan.
3.You could also buy a cobalt flux pad ( cobaltflux.com ) which will not break (It was run over by a SUV and still works.) You would have to buy an adapter as well since you have an Xbox
I think you should buy a cobalt flux if money is not a problem

You could mod your soft pad using this: http://www.ddrfreak.com/library/faqs-modding.php
My personal opinion is that it wont effect you too much. I will say that at your weight level the pad will probebly ware faster over time but it I dont think it would flat out fail after only a few songs, so dont worry it will probebly last atleast a couple months.
Or like the others said you can get a Cobalt Flux. $300 per pad is a bit steep but that thing is going to last you a life time. CF is THE best pad out there for anyone. Test have shown that the Cobalt Flux works even after being run over with an SUV... and I have seen people who have run over it several times with a car infact and it works like brand new. So a CF wont break down on you no matter how much weigh.
Good Luck with your wieght loss and have fun playing! |

Thanks for the info, guys. I'll probably have to stick with the mod for now. I doubt I can afford a Flux for quite a while. I did find a few pads I would buy though, if you guys think they're worth it. Here they are:
Deluxe Dance Pad 3.1 (Soft) -
http://www.levelsix.com/detail.aspx?ID=93
Metal Dance Platform Deluxe TX 1000 (PS/PS2, works with converter) -
http://www.lik-sang.com/info.php?category=244&products_id=3221&
Thanks again for the info, and if it's not too much trouble I'd like your opinion on these two. Thanks! |

You'd prob do better if the retailer offered a warranty. The levelsix pad isn't bad since it has hard foam, but it has very limited warranty I think. The tx-1000 isn't a bad pad, but the arrows aren't polycarbon which is more durable.
Metal pad: Red Octane ($199) w/ 60 day warranty
Ignition pad: BuyNShop ($48) w/ 30 day warranty
Cheapest/Good Pads limited/without warranty:
Metal pad: judysdeals ($100) / ngult ($129)
Ignition pad: vortzgame (2 pads for $30)
Refer to the soft and metal pad topics for more information. |
