If a tree falls in the woods, and no-one is around to hear it, then it creates vibrations in the air. These vibrations in the air would appear to be sound to anyone there to experience them (using their ears). But seeing as it has already been established that there is nobody in the woods then only vibrations are created and not sound.

But animals would still hear it so it made a sound regardless of whatever point you're trying to make.

WRONGO BONGO!!!

(S)he said no one. That means animals, also. (S)he is right, the vibrations are created, but there is nothing to intercept the vibrations and cahnge them into sound.

Oh, BTW, wrong forum.

*Sets up a recorder in the woods, scares away all the animals, then comes back to listen to his recording of the tree falling with his ears

If you fail a song and no one is around to witness it, did you really fail it? Same logic, same answer.
