In your opinion, what makes a newb a newb? when are they not a n00b?

newb: Someone new to DDR

n00b: Someone new to DDR is pathetically annoying/irritating you don't necessarily have to be new to DDR to be a n00b.

I would say someone is definitely a newbie when they

1)brag about scores that aren't theirs.
2)Make topics about newbies and newbie related questions E13.gif

When we have 3+ topics on n00bs in the same forum.

There are different levels of n00bs:

newbs- New to DDR, want to lear, get better
noobs - New to DDR, think they are cool, but knows their limitations
n00bz - New to DDR, think they are teh 1337, most wonderful, greatest person that ever walked on a DDR pad

i was a newb.

I like to think I'm a newb, but I'm probably just a noob, XP

Many classify n00bs also as those who insult another's dancing skills.

Basically, n00b is an insulting term for someone who is insulting.

just asking...why is ther a need to have a topic about noobs? i makes no sense. whats so bad about noobs? we were ALL one one time or another. just because you can play whatever song(s) on whatever difficulty and constantly AA or AAA it does'nt give you the reason to say everyone else who is a newbie sucks...you were one too disturb.gif . (i was just...venting allitle...wayy to many noob topics ive seen)

E19.gif woh, guess this topic wasnt a good idear... just seeing everyones opinion. i guess newb has become more of an insult based on arrogance than inexperiance, rather than a characteristic. I always just tried to keep my mouth shut untill my turn anyway. i can get b's on sakura/so deep so i can keep pace with some of the comp except i cant compare to their scores or touch any other ten footers.

i suppose it would be better to say "new" player riiight.gif riiight.gif riiight.gif

did you just have to bring JSB's questionable relevence to this topic in here. i think not. i know n00bz that are exactly how Yoshi explained them, but bringing a seperate person who is a VERY good player using a flaming tone of voice is not cool. have you ever met/talked to JSB in person? i highly doubt it...

Wheee, looks like someone found a way to cheap-shot JSB...

Anyways... what's with the newcomer-bashing these days? Don't they have the right to start playing DDR without having to be bashed on and disrespected like that?. I do agree that some are trying to look cool, but it's really a minority.

What I noticed about "n00b-bashers", is that, most of the time, they aren't exactly near "veteran" status either. I mean, I don't see experienced people here bash on new players...

I say let the new guys learn... and let the annoying ones rot alone...

I wasnt trying to have a newb bashing topic, what question i was trying to ask was more on a matter of...

at what point would you say a player is "impressive", or rather would impress you personally?

Hey... when you choose difficulty in the DDR machine... do you see
newbies, noobs, n00bz, and JSB? no... you see...
Beginner, light, standard and heavy.

do you know what that means?

LET THE BEGINNERS BE BEIGINNERS... NO MATTER HOW THEY ACT! DO NOT DICE THEM UP. IF YOU CAN BEAT THE BEAT THEM! DO NOT DICE THEM UP!

Nah dude, you're looking at it wrong. They're not talking about newbs, they're talking about n00bs. You know, azzholes, people who mock other players because they're either better than them, or they can play songs they can't do kuz they suck. We were all beginners at one point, but that's another subject.

And this is like the 3rd or 4th n00b topic I've seen. What's going on here? E19.gif

There's nothing that can actually define one, they should know if they are.. just ask them. If they lie, prove them wrong. E10.gif

Anyone who does not know DDR basic etiquette which is COMMON SENSE stuff.

Stuff like... play your game, let someone else get a turn when done.

i was probably between a newb and a noob. im teaching my 11-year-old little sister how to play, she's a newb except she doesn't want to go on to standard mode no matter how much i tell her she should but she says she doesn't want to sweat (i should probably mention that she can get a B on sp-trip machine jungle mix, which is a 6 on light)

I agree with Mart.
The way to tell if someone is new to ddr is by looking at their difficulty status.
But it's not fair to bash on someone just because they are starting out. You can't be that rough on someone when they are just learning. I mean think of it, would you like to be treated like that by someone who is better at ddr than you?... I think not.
