Is there anyone out there with arcade pad experience who could answer the following question?
There is someone on ebay claiming to have a new arcade pad (one side) that could replace a pad on an arcade unit. Here's where it gets fishy. The pictures have a cable coming off the front of the unit with a PS1/PS2 type connector. This thing sure looks real enough but what I have read in a DDR manual doesn't jive with the claims of this auction.
Looking at the scematics in the back of the manual you can't just hook the real pads to a Playstation. Even if the pad was modified in some way, the Playstation doesn't have enough power to light the neon in the floor. There doesn't appear to be any additional cables for power.
I have emailed the individual asking for further technical specifications without disclosing any of the specs from the manual, to see what kind of response I get.
I seriously doubt you could modify an actual arcade pad for use at home. And yes, if it's too good to be true it probably is. But I don't know everything there is to know about the inner workings of my local DDR machine. Is there anyone out there who thinks it's possible?

Is the auction still active? May we see the auction for ourselves? _________________

Get ready to PAY FOR IT! I just tried $300 as a bid and the reserve is still not met. I'm willing to bet the reserve is close to $500 and that the pad will go for between $750 and $1000 before its over.
I still don't even know if it's a real arcade pad. So be careful. It's to good to be true.

That doesn't even LOOK like the authentic arcade pad...
It's just an imitation.
A kinda cheap-looking one as well. |

Looking at the local machine, the pad has what I would call an outer frame that has the back piece holding the trick bar. This pad is missing this piece.
As I said before, I doubt that this is a real arcade pad. I am curious about it. The reserve is over $300, too much to risk on an imitation or home built pad. There are several people who have shown their home built pads here and they look excellent. If someone offered a good pad here I might consider it. But not say $400 or $500 off ebay. I''ll go get a pair of CFs.

That is definitely not an arcade pad. It may be of high quality, but it is not an authentic arcade pad. Also, the arrows are not real arcade arrows. It seems too risky. If you really want a nice pad you could always just get a CF. |

this seems quite fishy, i would be willing to bet it is not a real arcade pad. there is no apparent external power source for lighting, no back peice which is unnattachable from a real arcade pad and the description is quite shady if i do say so myself. i have been looking for an arcade pad to rewire for quite some time. there was actually someone who posted picyutes a while back of himself playing on a rewired solo arcade pad that he did for his ps2, ao it is possible to do, but this definately isnt the real thing. also, if anyone has any information on where one could purchase an arcade pad, i would be extemely grateful. i've seen the solo replacement pad from channelbeat, and i was dully unimpressed with the fact that it was used and shipping would probably cost close to a grand while the pad would only cost abou $380. if you know how to get cheap shipping from hong kong to the states that would probably be a good bet though. tell me if you know of any way to do that, haha. |

Yeah, It does look a little to good to be true. The reserve is higher than $300, so I think my money would be better spent with a set of CFs.
oh well.

I think that is one of the infamous Beat-Gear pads from a couple of years ago. Here is a review on the Beat-Gear pad and the arrows and circle and borders look just like the 4-panel pad.
If anyone remembers that fiasco, lots of people got screwed by ordering that pad and only a few received them. The interesting part, is that supposedly the rest of the pads were stuck in a warehouse in Miami. The Ebay seller's location is listed as Miami too. |

ddrhomepad is right! those are the Beat Gear pads. theres a new posting for 2 six panel pads. it shows how they are packaged which is how they are described in the review by the stepmania guy. if anyone wants to kno where there beat gear is, they are being sold on ebay! if i ordered one, i'd be so upset |

I purchased some of these and LOVE them. Cost a few more bucks but one gets what they pay for.

If all of the beat gears where locked up in Miami, and the seller is in miami, i wouldnt buy these pads because of how unfair it would be to the original buyer. _________________

I totally agree that is was real bad what happened to some folks.
But, even though it would be great to say no one should have bought these, someone was. And, I saw no reason I, and others, could not be some of these. They are much better than the CF pads I used to have, in my opinion.
