For me, I think DDR has gotten top known and everybody seems to know what it is now. When I first started playing, which was in the 3rd Mix days, and you would tell people you played DDR, you would try to explain to them what it was and try to make them visualize it. Now, when you say you play DDR, they automatically know its Dance Dance Revolution. Then they add how gay that game is and say that anybody could play. DDR used to be unique. |

.....Is that a bad thing?
All that means is bigger crowds, more oponents, and less idiots you have to fight for calling you gay.
I only see pluses. _________________

Well as long as people make fun of you because they know the game now, well that rocks! _________________

You have a point. DDR is all most of my friends talk about now, and it gets annoying after a while. I love DDR, it's pretty much my life at the moment cause i'm trying to get better and i refuse to give up, but i enjoy watching people play DDR as well as playing with them. _________________

I've been playing longer than you. You need to stop playing my game because I feel that it became too popular right around when you started playing. So get out.
See how dumb that sounds? There's always someone that has been doing something longer than you, unless you're the guy who thought it up.

No, the game was not unique, it just wasn't well known. You want to feel special that you play something that others don't. Who cares? It's a game. Play it because it's fun, not because people think you're cool.
Or, if you can't do that, then become a leader in your area so people can look up at you. You just shift your focus from playing a game that isn't well known to being a leader in the subculture of your area. _________________

DDR isn't that popular around here and I wish it was more so that way we might be able to get a machine closer that a half hour away!!!! Yea when I was a Gala this year we had DDR and some guys though it would be fun to make fun of my suckyness but then Str8 got up and PA'd and they quickly shut up. I dosn't botter me that they make fun of me cause I'm about a million times better than they'll ever be. _________________

In California (and maybe other parts in the Western region) it got stale pretty much after DDRMAX2.
In other parts...maybe getting popular. _________________

I don't really think there is anything bad about ddr becoming more popular, first of all, people know what game youre talking about and, it means that ddr will be easier to find in arcades, due to its popularity.
I really do think it's extremely annoying when people say that ddr is gay, or assume that it's really easy, and anyone could play just by looking at it. |

Then sometimes they'll be like, oh yea i saw that once, but most of the time they have no idea what i'm talking about |
same situation for me. most people are clueless when i say "DDR." then when i do explain what it is they say, "oh yeah, that game is dumb/gay/stupid/whatever other lame insult." however, i think a lot of people usually say this because they don't want to actually get on the machine in the arcade and try to play, because at first it is incredibly hard and most people get embarassed when they play and fail. hah i know i do even though i've been playing for a year and a half now. so they never get the "full experience" of the game or a chance to actually play some of the more fun songs and such. sigh. poor kids. _________________

Where I live it's just barely getting noticed more often now. Considering I live in a rural area, it helps. |

I'll bet you, anyone who says DDR is stupid and easy has either never played or tried to play and failed horribly. |

You all know this was gonna happen anytime soon. It always does. But you all who used to get upset when people call you gay for playing DDR shouldnt be complaining. Now you dont get called gay. I never minded being called names. (Maybe im not a good example seeing as im 6 foot 5 and dont really have people who wanna talk smack at me)
But the fact is that we win and loose both ways. You know what? You could cleverly associate this Fear of Popularity with the fear that Older American Immigrants had when Newer American Imigrants came in. The biggotismn and stuff like that.

I'm not trying to feel special at all, I do play for fun, I could care less what people tell me about me playing DDR or DDR itself. I'm not dissing anyone who started playing or anything. I'm just saying that it's like a win/lose situation. On the plus side, yes it is more crowds and oppenents like CaliburMonk said. But on the bad side, more people who know about it, more and more idiots will keep saying stupidities. There are also players who play for the wrong reasons and just don't know how to have fun. |
