|
This is a thread to choose a song, give it a rating for the song itself, a rating for the steps on Heavy, and a comment summary for why you chose those ratings. Pretty much the same thing as IMDB with movies except with DDR songs. Here are a couple:
Last Message
My Rating: 7.0/10
Summary: Last Message is one of those songs that nobody notices until it's too late. It's a laid-back, easy-going song that's fun to move to and there's nothing complex about the song itself. Everything is upfront when you hear this song. Another example would be In the Heat of the Night. Straight-forward and honest, not much else to say. 7 out of 10.
Foot Notes(Heavy): 6.75/10
Summary: The steps are very easy to follow along and have amusement of their own so you can enjoy the song as you follow along helping you to move with the groove! It's easy to read and there are no confusing 1/16 notes. The only thing I don't like about these steps are the part where you have the jump with the left and right steps following up behind it which I had to bar rape in order to AAA.
Xenon
My Rating: 7.5/10
Summary: One of my favorites from the IIDX package. Xenon delivers the same feeling from when you listen to DXY! or Radical Faith. While I'm a big sucker for music such as this, others may think differently. I think it's an awesome song and is done very well with the complex sounds and the way the instruments are blended together to make an awesome hardcore dance feature. But not everyone may praise it the same way I do so I give it 7.5 out of 10.
Foot Notes(Heavy): 7.5/10
Summary: These steps do what you want them to do. They follow along with something you can listen to for a rhythm while adding in brief seconds of voltage to keep you on your feet making it a lot of fun to play if you're in a die hard DDR mood! The only set back is by the end of the song, the voltage piles in on you causing you to lose energy quickly which becomes only a matter of staying on your feet and that's no fun.
Submit your ratings and summary for a DDR song! I'll write more later.

The Shining Polaris
Song Rating: 8.5/10
An odd song in terms of mood. One second, the thumping bass gets your blood thumping. The next, Sana's soothing voice immediately relaxes your mind and gives your ears a massage. The jittery synth is a nice touch as well. Definitely one of the better trance songs, I think.
Step Rating: 6.5/10
Unfortunately, this song suffers from the I'm-An-Awesome-Song-With-Lame-Steps Curse. If you were to cut the volume, you could easily confuse the Heavy steps for this song with Standard steps from another. With steps that consist mainly of 1/4 Freeze hits, this song remains a throbbing, untapped vein of potential, just begging for an edit or two.
Maybe I'll do others later. _________________

Stay
9/10
An overall great song. I would say it's a great trance song but I don't think it is and don't want to get flamed for getting my genres wrong.
Foot Rating:
8.5/10
The synth parts match the song perfectly, but some of the other jumps seem unnecessary. This could easily be an 8 footer if the jumps and other random steps were taken out. Still very good steps overall.
Luv To Me A.M.D. Mix
7/10
A good song with a pop feel to it. It used to be my favorite song back in the Konamix days.
Foot Rating:
5/10
To me, these steps just aren't fun on Maniac. The sixteenth notes seem to be in there for no reason along with the strange gallops in the beginning. The steps otherwise are fine, but those strange steps just knock it all the way down to a 5.
There You'll Be
8/10
A song that makes me think of Armageddon. But on a side note, it's a good song too that is very underrated.
Foot Rating:
7.5/10
For the song being an 8 footer, these steps are easier than LTR's. Fun steps nonetheless, and they have a nice little Senorita feel to them. _________________

WHAT A PIECE OF SHIT. Overall, the steps go with the "music", but it seems like a 3 year old made it
Max1 Fantasy 10/10
I love this song, and 16th note runs are fun
L'amour 57/10
This is arguably my favorite song on DDR, and even though the steps are frustrating as hell, I love them so very much _________________

Leading Cyber
Song: 10/10
Unexplainably awesome. I love the tough drum rifts in the middle of the song. This song reminds me of those major spy films, like Mission Impossible or James Bond-- The enemy appears and then they have a huge conflict with eachother. The battle becomes intense but the hero is victorious. He has a cigarette, and proceeds throught the opening elevator in order to face his next foe, Max300.
Steps: 8.5
The steps are good... the middle is really tough though. I remember when I first played it, I couldnt even tell one arrow from another, because it was so dense looking. I had to speed it up to get used to how fast the arrows force you to move, and they follow the drumming rifts perfectly. My only grip is that, the rest of the song seems too much like a normal 6 footer or something. _________________

Spin the Disc
Song Rating (10/10):
The song is amazing. It has a great feel, and the rhythm fits the beat so amazingly. Also, the background singers, though I can't understand them, are awesome. I can listen to this song on repeat forever.
Step Rating (8/10):
In a few bits, the steps seem a bit off-sync and don't fit the song very well (aka most of the stream). However, the rest is beautiful. Wuh-chickee-wahh-chickeechickee-wahwah-WAH-duh-groovetrain...... _________________

ElectroTuned
Song: 9/10
A sketchy intro that leads into a dirty techno-ish groove. An excellent song a maximum volume with red herrings misdirecting where you think it's going to go. Once its groove gets ahold, it won't let go.
Steps: 9/10
Confusing at first, but with a rhythm that flows with the background of the song. The steps are almost like an additional instrument adding to the effect of the song. These steps get a |

BURNING HEAT
Music : 10/10
It may just be me, but fanfares or songs with a fanfare as a melody kick buttocks. Major buttocks. More buttocks than should be legally allowed under the age of 21!
Steps: 9/10
I love these steps. They are the most fun i ever have playing DDR. ONly problem is that they drain you like there 'no esta una manana' |

Daikenkai
10/10
This is my favorite song in DDR. It's a unique song, unfortunately most people find it annoying. I like how it speeds up in the middle.
Steps 8/10
Although I like this song I think that the heavy steps aren't as fun as the standard steps. They're good but I think this song could have been a good 9 foot IMHO.
The Earth Light
9/10
I think this is one of the most underrated songs from Konamix. It's a great techno song with a cool beat. A lot of my friends that I play with tend to overlook it which is sad.
Steps 10/10
The steps go perfectly with this song. They're challenging but not too tiring. I couldn't have made them better myself
Butterfly
9/10
This is another of my favorite songs. It's so catchy and I love the background music behind the vocals.
Steps 5/10
I loved this song so much when I was a beginner but when I got to heavy mode it wasn't fun because it was only 5 feet. I think that they should have made this song harder (at least a 7 foot) so that heavy players could enjoy it more. _________________

Long Train Runnin'
5/10
Ehh.....not a big fan of the song. The rapper sounds good is a few parts, but overall, the music blows in my personal opinion.
Steps: 2/10
I suck at the steps....nuff said.
V [for EXTREME]
8/10
Cool song, it's pleasant, yet intense.
Oni Steps: 8/10
I like the 16th runs, I just wish something could be done about the long freeze in the beginning.
So Deep
6.5/10
I liked it at first, but that song's butt must be really sore from being raped so many times at my local arcade.
Steps: 7.8/10
It's fun, but a b.itch to PA.
I'll give more ratings when I have more time. _________________

Break Down | BeForU
Song - 9.5/10
I love the song ALTOGETHER. Very upbeat and energetic, but it would get 10/10 if I could only understand the lyrics.
Steps - 8/10
bLah!? Intro steps mess me up but the rest are cool. The freeze part with the repeated arrows, 'cause my leg tends to stiffen especially my left leg.
Candy | Unlimited
Song - 10/10
Hyper. Energetic. Just like the candy we eat.
Steps - 9/10
We!! Fun!! It goes with the synths too!
Take Me Away (radio vocal)
Song - 4/10
This song is just...blech... Let alone, the song is like 1:20+ 3/4 of the song is what the song says, "radio vocal."
Steps - 1/10
Aww...WTF man!? Who decided to put in a song that practically has no percussion and actually have steps go with it? GWAR.

Radical Faith
My Rating: 8.25/10
Summary: Very underrated. One of the best hits from TaQ! Hardcore techno mixed with guitar rock. What more could you ask for!? Go to your nearest 5th Mix and play Radical Faith. You will be pleased!
Steps: 6.5/10
The steps consist of forward stream and small segments of voltage. Some may find these patterns to be very bland and uninventive but I think it works very well with the song itself. Try them for yourself and develop your own opinion.
Movin On (Extended Moon Mix)
My rating: 8.75/10
Summary: A magnificent title! One of the greatest songs ever adapted to the series that moves you like you wouldn't believe. Everything about this song is perfect! The bpm, the tones, the humming, the vocals, the lyrics, EVERYTHING!!! No other DDR song delivers such an overwhelming sense of power like Movin On does. Play this song! YOU WILL LOVE IT!!!
Steps: 9.0/10
There is no improvement to be made on the step chart. Everything about these steps pushes all the right buttons. The chaos, the stream, the voltage, and the jumps come in at just the right time! The step chart will make you proud to play this song and never gets old! And is seriously underrated!
Burning Heat! (3 Option Mix)
My Rating: 6.5/10
Summary: While a great many players are big fans of this title, it gets more appreciation than what it deserves. Remixes of old video game music is always cool, but this is not Konami at their best. The Gradius games were only mediocre and not the best side-scroll shooter that I played in our time.
Steps: 5.5/10
Summary: Most of the chart follows what is most obvious when listening to Burning Heat. But for the most part, the steps consist of all fast-paced irregularity which doesn't let up and can be very exhausting very quickly turning into a matter of survival within seconds. While part of the step chart works perfectly in some areas such as the middle with the galloping, the rest of it is based on "Ha ha, I have more stamina than you!" The constant galloping and jumping around throughout the whole session is not always the best tactic to enjoying a song. And Burning Heat is certainly one of them. |

Orion.78(Civilization Mix)
Song 9/10
This song is quite a typical remix by 2MB. Increase in speed, more coherant and very demonic. 2MB songs have a somewhat demonic feel to it. I like the demonic feel. Even the voice that loops something sounding like "nature".
Steps 6/10
The steps are demonic. Like the song. Although they make it correspond, it becomes too hard to be fun. You do get the gallop part at some point in the song but in truth this is like a HVAM with less flowing steps. _________________

Pink Rose
Song: 8/10
in my opinion, it's the underplayed DDR song of the century. sure the title may be too gay-sounding for those who care about their masculinity, but it's got a catchy tune. i'm a j-pop fan, so i particularly enjoy the song. it may not be for everyone, but at least give it a chance instead of just passing it by on the song select because it's called "Pink Rose". and the movie's got a Gundam-esque robot. how can that be bad?
Steps: 8/10
they're not too challenging steps, but at least they go with the music (not like a certain Eurobeat song that advertises to be Hyper), and they're fun steps to do. they're not too easy, but they don't rape you either.
Sakura
Song: 10/10
what more can i say...... it's Sakura, and the background image makes for a wonderful computer wallpaper
Steps: 10/10
they're hard, yes, but they challenge every aspect of the DDR spectrum: fast steps, sudden tempo changes, jumps at the end, off-beat rhythms, and positioning yourself for those harder parts. while i don't quite deem it a 10-footer in my opinion (more like a 9.5), the steps are good, fun steps for those who wanna break the 10-foot barrier for the first time[/b] _________________

Un Deux Trois
Song Rating: 9.5/10
Another very awesome, home version song. One of the best Konami Originals out there. Defienetely an awesome trance song.
Steps: 8/10
Not the hardest steps ever, but, not every song needs to be an insanely hard song. Fun to play, although after the tempo stop, the steps start to become somewhat weird, overall good though.
Flash In the Night
Song Rating: 9/10
An awesome eurodance song. The music is awesome and though the vocals aren't incredible, they're catchy. A song I wish Konami had not dropped at MAX.
Steps: 9.5/10
Some of the best steps I've ever seen Konami come up with. In fact most of the MAX songs seem to very good steps, compared to MAX2 and EXTREME. A hard and challenging song on Heavy. And also good fun on standard.
Celebrate Nite (Euro Trance Style)
Song Rating: 9/10
My favorite DDR song, tied with think ya better D . I love the background music and the whole trance/club feel it seems to have. I wish there was a long version. This is a very good easy listening and calming song.
Step Rating: 7/10
Like many Oni Version songs, Celebrate Nite (ETS Style) seems to have some bothersome steps or steps that force you to turn your body in a weird way or switch feet uncomfortably. Not the best steps I've ever seen, and exactly why edit mode is out there, but not extremely horrible either. _________________

e-motion
Song Rating: 8.0/10
An almost enchanting song with its calm synth and soothing vocals. Suddenly, it kicks up and the throbbing bass gets you moving. However, clocking in at under 1:10, this is one of the shortest songs in DDR history.
Step Rating: 6.0/10
Unfortunately, the steps are as calm as the song. There's just so little substance to the playability. Crappy steps + Short-as-pants song = Great for listening to at home, but a waste of money at the arcade. _________________

Baby Baby Gimme Your Love
My rating - 1/10
First off, I would have to say that this song is terrible. The lyrics, the voice, and the steps... all need to die. It is like choking on a dead baby or somethign.. Just...no...
Steps 2/10
I am only giving this a 2 because it is at least a 6 footer. They tried to make steps.. yet failed.
More Than I Needed to Know
My rating 9/10
IMO, this was one of the very best songs that was taken off of Max2. They didn;t need to just say "whoops! my bad. we forgot to put the MOST AWESOME song ever made for DDR on EXTREME..." If they wanna redeem themselves... DDREXTREME USA best have it.
Steps 21/10
Speed changes, jumps, weird beats. They put the best of the best into this song.
R3
My Rating - 10/10
Best song besides MTINTK. Great beats, harmonic voices saying unknowing things in the background. Just...awesome.
Steps - 8/10
Could have gone a bit more hardcore. I could so see this as a 10 footer, but that is just me, and I guess taht my opinio doesn; count anyways. _________________

Remember You
Song 10/10
Although people do not consider this song worthy of DDR, It is a beautiful song, with meaningfull lyrics, and a mellow tune. Anyone who truly enjoys music for its value would be able to absorb the song.
Steps 6/10
The steps go with the song but they are completely easy. Maybe that was the objective of the song and tis for that reason i gave extra points. This song would be a good song for anyone who is just entering the realm of Heavy. _________________
