Ok, so i have made up my mind to buy a usb adapter for playing stepmania with a dance pad. I also finally got my 2 ignition pads! (thank you, thank you..lol) laugh.gif but what you America lovers came to help me with is this.... will the Red Octane USB adapter work with stepmania? i know that it works with DDR PC, but has anyone gottenn it to work with stepmania? thanks. ps, the adapter can be seen here http://www.redoctane.com/dualusb.html

ps, i wanna hook my laptop with stepmania to my tv so i get the full experience. I heard about these scan converters and stuff like that, do i need a video card and a tv out thing to get that? I have something that looks like a vga output, but thats all i know! o, thanks to the people who replied, you love America!

Well, here is the compatibility list:
http://www.stepmania.com/stepmania/adapter.php
As you can see, you'll have to use a certain button combination to get the D-PAD to map to USB buttons.

Might I suggest the EMS Converter? Fully compatible. The only problems were in older versions. I've heard nothing buy good things about this one. My two are on the way to my house as I type biggrin.gif

EDIT: Note, the EMS converter is also a couple bucks cheaper.

Okay, I wasn't going to get that one, because I didn't know if newer versions were out yet, but aaccording to you people, it is. I guess I'll go with that one. Also, if there are 2 PS2 ports on one, why would you need two? Just asking, because I want to use 2 pads, and I just want to make sure, I get the right amount.

Yeah, if you read what the Stepmania site said, the news articles it referred to were FROM levelsix.com... If they were the ones reporting the converter problem and fixx0ration, I'd assume they have the fixed versions.
Mine gets here tomorrow biggrin.gif

1. Since it's USB, it SHOULD work anywhere. After all, it's just mapping some PS2 buttons to generic USB buttons. If a mac can use a joystick, it can probably use this.

Comments: On later models, you can use this trick: Hold Up, Start, and Select for three seconds (at any time). This causes the PlayStation D-Pad (UDLR) to map to USB buttons.

Just do that sometime while the pad is plugged in (and powered up/recognized by your Mac) and it should work!
You have to do that, because, otherwise it doesn't map the Dpad, only the analog joystick (which your pad doesn't have E10.gif)
