Sometimes the pad platform and the DDR machine are spread out (making a small gap). Then some, have it closer to the machine.

I don't know about you, but I play alot better when the machine is closer. When it's far out, I am afraid my foot is going to hit the gap, making me fall and hit my head on the machine.

Or is it normal to have it spread out? (Hopefully this isn't confusing for others).

I haven't seen a pad like that here so i've always assumed that they all stay. I think it's just preference as to what the owner wants to do with them.

Meh, if the pad is too close, then I take it upon myself to move that piece back a few feet or so...I can't stand it when the pad is too close.

I prefer having the pad father away from the screen. Otherwise, I can't focus very well on the arrows. Especially after a long session.

yea, i went to this place where the pad was right up close with the screen and you were so close taht you couldnt see the left arrow if you were standing on the left pad or the right arrow if you were on the right pad. I prefer the pad to be at least a foot away from the screen.
