In some of the songs on DDR, the game gives no credit to the original songwriters on the music wheel. For example, Let's Groove is an Earth, Wind, and Fire song, and So Fabulous, So Fierce is Le Freak by Chic. Is there somewhere that they give credit to these artists? If so, where is it? If not, why is that considered ok?

JP Extreme's credits give the songwriters for "We Will Rock You" and "We Are the Champions" (also "Irresistiblement," although the names behind that song aren't as recognizable as Queen's). I think "Maximum Overdrive" even had a special blurb on the back of the CS 7th Mix release to show its licensing status. I have no idea why other songs aren't credited that way in earlier mixes, though.

I believe when u make a remix of a song...whihc is what these are in essense, you only have to pay the original artist, credit does not need to be given, could be wrong though

covers don't need to be credited (when the same tune is used, but brand new performers). remixes on the other hand, do (when the original music is in the song, just reworked)

That makes sense, and explains at least So Fabulous, So Fierce, but Let's Groove, aside from being shortened, is the original song. And as the above poster said, La Copa De La Vida is also, I believe, just a shortened version of the song. Craziness E19.gif .

I'm not entirely positive about La De La Vida, but I absolutely know that Let's Groove is sung by Earth, Wind and Fire. Listening to the two songs, I can hear that Let's Groove on DDR has been remixed slightly, but the voices still belong to the members of EWF. Only the background beat has been changed. Even if it had changed, I would imagine Konami would have to give credit to the original song writer somewhere peoples.gif .

Some songs that have been done by different artists and put on DDR are:

We Will Rock You
We are the Champions
La Copa De La Vida
Oops! I Did It Again!

Only ones I can think of for now.

Ordinary World, too - although I can remember that song having songwriter credits in its background, at least in the arcade (and it's credited to the personnel of Duran Duran, even though it's a cover).

That's another thing - how come the songs that have songwriter/copyright information in their arcade backgrounds have had that information removed for console releases? US releases have been slightly better about this (I can remember seeing Drifting Away, Conga Feeling, So Deep, and a few more on US MAX2's credits roll), but I'm pretty sure the Japanese releases don't mention this stuff anywhere, aside from the incomplete information in Extreme's credits.

I don't think they ever gave credit to TM Revolution for Hot Limit. Maybe because the original was in Japanese? I always wondered though why they don't always give credit to the original artists but I'm no legal expert so I was just content to wondering.
