Here's my situation. I have two modded soft pads that recently died, so I can no longer play my two home versions of DDR. I can still play at the arcade, but it's a 90-minute drive and costs gas money, which I don't have much of. Hopefully soon this will only be about a 40-minute drive when a closer town gets another machine. At the end of August, I will be moving into a dorm room to start college, and I don't know if I'll be able to play in my dorm.
Here are the options I am considering.
A) Buy a Cobalt Flux.
Advantages - Best pad you can buy.
Disadvantages - Costs a lot of money, may not be worth buying if I can only use it for a few months.
B) Buy another cheap $20 soft pad.
Advantages - The least pricey solution.
Disadvantages - Will break down soon anyway. I feel like I'm unable to get better at the game because these pads are holding me back.
C) Play only at the arcade.
Advantages - It's more fun.
Disadvantages - Not really good for practicing songs and improving skills, I can't keep track of my records, expensive, can't go very often. (Once a week maximum)
If you were in my place, what would you do? _________________

Yeah i know how you feel, my soft pads broke down on my and i really want to buy a steel pad that comes with the bar but my parent wont let me because they say we dont have enough room. the only advantage i have is that there are 4 arcades around me all within walking distance. if i were you i would buy the cobalt flux because there was this guy in one of the other forums who has metal pad and he lives in a dorm and hes allowed to play in it. if not that at least buy one of the soft non slip pads. surprisingly the are pretty good and do help develope skills further depending on what you want to improve. if its accuracy and crossovers and simple things you want to improve on, then go for it. if you want to pass really hard songs like max 300 or unlimited or any other 10-footers or anything thats really really fast i would wait. _________________

I think it depends on what songs you play. I have a pair of soft pads which haven't failed me yet, but I can only pass 6 footers with them. Any higher, and the quick movemetns aren't so great on the soft pad. I slip and flail around, and the pad starts moving under my feet. The general reason to get a Cobalt Flux is that if you're a serious player, you're probably going to go through more than a couple soft pads in your DDR playtime. So, while you pay what seems like a hefty amount for that, the price may be justified when you take into consideration how many soft pads you'll be buying and modding in the time you play DDR. |

Buy the cheapest pads you can right now.... then if you can play it in the dorm room buy the cobalt flux.... If not I guess your only option is arcade..... |
