Recently, a brave soul had the guts to post yet another gay/bi DDR post. Good 4 U, u get a cookie. Anyway, there is a more policically correct post & I think this is what he was trying to get at. Do you think that DDR gets through the alternative lifestyle? And in even a broader picture, is anything fair enough for both the straight and gay lifestyle?
Well, for starters, I find that outcasts and odd people play DDR more than anybody. I'm not calling you outcasts, but its the truth. Lets face it, gay/bi is an outcast lifestyle, so it probably attracts them to it. Not only that, but people who play the game seem to be more accepting and tolerant than most.
But beyond DDR, how many gay football players are out there? Gay basketball players? Can you find any? I didn't think so! So can we say that everything is fair? Hell No!

the more you know...

maybe it's because gay people like dancing? E10.gif duh. i'm a gay nerd so a video game about dancing is like perfect for me.
and there are a lot of gay basketball and football players. e.g esera tuaolo came out recently. he had to stay in the closet while he was actively playing because he would have gotten poopy from the other players.

Isn't it like tradition to slap your fellow american football players on the as[b][b/]s in the locker room anywa? Seems kinda suspicious to me..

I disagree. From my experiences i've seen that there is a very diverse gamate of players who play DDR, much like any arcade game (with the exception of PPP, which is solely reserved for.... yeah). Gamers already can be considered a subculture, but your statement saying that 'it is the plain truth that DDR is an outcast lifestyle' is not only wrong, but also very ignorant.

I have no clue whether you're coming to this conclusion based on the stupid drama called high school and it's heirarchal structuring of popularity or from things at your local arcade, but I can tell you that things are very different here in SoCal. It's caught on with such acceptance here that it's not a game solely for 'outcasts' but for everyone. It's penetrated into mainstream culture via several mediums including television and movies (Sketchers commercial, King of the Hill Ep., Hillary Duff's new movie uses a mock DDR game, etc.) and through radio (KIIS 102.7 held a tournament a few years back).

You claim that this is a game only enjoyed by us 'outcasts' when so many celebrities attest on camera to the fun they've had playing the game. Even Jin, the asian hiphop sensation, wrote in his blog regarding playing DDR Extreme. I don't know how things with you and your friends may be, but i'm pretty damn sure that 'outcasts' isn't one of the words that someone would use to describe the kinds of people that I play with.

DDR doesn't really make you more accepting or the like. Hell, I've met some of the biggest buttplugs in my life through DDR. It also doesn't help that some people in my region can get pretty hostile just for not sharing the same beliefs as them.

And granted, while I don't know any football players that are gay/bi, the ass-smacking theory tends to point otherwise.

Now see, I wanted to prove my mental capacity by typing a long post, with big words, and politically correct phrases and the otherwise, but, I'm lazy, and tired.

Yea, alot of people play DDR, not just 'outcasts'. Gaming in itself can be considered an 'outcast society' in itself (But at the same time not, because some games rival sales of some movies o.O) And some of the most tolerant people play DDR, very open minded, and the like, but I don't think there is really any sort of coorilation between the two, and I don't think because 'gay people like to dance' is a legit reason for enjoying it, it's a fun game, end of story, some people like it, and some people are close minded enough to think of it as 'gay' and that you 'only dance around like a sissy' and other crap like that, even though, I really don't see what makes DDR so 'gay' or anything like that, it's a fun game, on a pad, or with a controller, I guess some people are just....stupid, oh well.

And I'd like to make this statement, the next gay person that's 'loud and proud' is getting shot, I'm so tired...so...so...tired of seeing and hearing all this crap, I, and I'm sure alot of other people, really don't care....I don't walk around going "I'm straight!" and expect a cookie, or something. Pretty much, the world is over that, unless your in the south, or stuck in the 19th century. No one really cares anymore, only ones left, Christians, heh. I mean, they're the only one's who really think it's wrong, go look aruond, Buddhists, don't care, Japanese don't care, Europe doesn't care. Even the Romans didn't care, one of the most advanced civilizations of their time, no one cared, sex was just...sex. No one really cared til the Christian's rolled around....but I'm probably wrong, that's just what I see. Not that I'm pointing the finger at the Christians, God forbid.

Let's just put it this way, not alot of people really care anymore, yay, you're gay, good for you, now let's go on with our lives, don't expect anything special about it. If you don't get equal treatment, from one person, who the hell cares? From a group of people, who the hell cares? There are alot of people just like you, in the same situation, just for different reasons, people running around being goth are in the same situations, punks, skins, nazis, everyone hates everyone, who the hell cares, poopy happens, you get over it

It all just reminds me of how in the St. Patty's day parade, how they wouldn't let gays march, you know why? Because they were assholes. There was absolutely no reason for them to run down the street with everyone else who was celebrating being Irish, and you with a sign saying you're gay....wrong parade guys, sorry, no go. You're Irish, it doesn't matter if you're gay, and if you're going to holding being gay over being Irish, that's a frick tragedy (Excuse my French)

Sorry, I just needed to get that off my chest xD

Now I probably seem like a big bad guy, when I'm really not, I'm probably one of the most open minded people you'll ever meet, but if you want to focus, and judge me on what I had just said, that's your problem, not mine, I couldn't care less.

As for that sports thing, there are alot of gay athletes, they're just not allowed to come out, or some stupid bumhole'll give him poopy for being gay, even though he could be the best player in history.

I swear, people get stupider every century.

"20 centuries of progress, suffer slowly as we regress, losing headway to ourselves"

Five Iron Frenzy said it the best (Irony: One of my favourite bands, Christian ska, but they realize that all this crap with prejudice, is retarded, and that's a good thing, almost made me convert.)

poopy happens you get over it.

(Please excuse the cursing, but for some odd reason, that seemed to be the best way to express my opinion, or atleast how I felt on the matter biggrin.gif)

Wow...that ended up being long anyway.....hm.

gay pride stuff pisses me off too, but i can understand where they are coming from. gay pride isn't about saying "i'm proud to be gay" because being gay isn't an accomplishment, it's something you're born with. what they're really saying is, "i won't let your discrimination get me down, because i'm not ashamed of who i am." because a vast majority of homosexuals CAN'T admit it to other people and spend years, even their whole lives in the closet. that's why it seems like there's so few, because people are afraid to admit it. so it's also a reach out to those people, telling them "it's ok to be who you are". that's how i see it at leas

t
but don't get me started about gay pride parades... T_T media coverage -> bad stereotypes! no! *rants incoherently*

I'm not gay, I'm not a homophobe, hell I'm a frikin atheist. I couldn't care less if someone is gay. What I do care about is when people use words like "cigarette" and "gayfer" as derogitory terms towards anything they don't like. Yes, I've heard people say "Look! He's playing that gay dancing game!" all the time. What makes the game gay, and why is this a bad thing? Ask people questions like this and I bet they will shut the frick up.

people underestimate how much words like that actually hurt homosexuals. i mean imagine if you were black (or don't imagine at all if you are) and you heard someone say "ddr is a game for fukin niggers"... it's practically the same, only a different group is being targeted... being a closed minded asshole is hardly "good for them"

I play DDR because I enjoy it, not because I'm a social outcast (I'm not in the first place).

'Nuff said...er something...

Any time you get into a hobby that's not in the mainstream, you're going to find "outcast" type of people. "Outcast" could mean quiet and reserved, or nerd, or gay, or just like really intensely dedicated to things. I've seen all those kinds playing DDR (and I'd put myself in the first two categories).

I see the same thing in most of my other hobbies. Like roller-coaster enthusiasm... many of those guys are HUGE nerds, and there's a huge gay enthusiast population. It's only when I get into my more mainstream hobbies ... like playing golf ... that I meet more "normal" people. (and I would define "normal" here as boring, uncreative slobs, but whatever. E13.gif)

Wow, these are the kinds of responses I was looking for! It's great to hear other people's opinions on this subject.
Who knows, maybe it was out of ignorance that i posted this, but i did it because i didn't know, and i'm glad now that i do, thanks to you guys. But don't think of me as ingorant, because i am very wise...[arrogant] I just took a few observations that i see in tournaments and arcades, and even my own cooky house parties. But I'm glad that at some other part of the world, it is popular and it is the thing to do. Hell, it's a sport now [which means i'm a jock, ooo yeah E10.gif ] DDR, as well as any game is an alternative lifestyle in my opinion.
Okay, since you guys blew off some steam about this gay/bi/straight argument, do you also think that it's fair for other races and ethnic groups? Do you think that it appeals to a certain race? As of my first post, forget what i said. Think of the big picture here.

the more you know...

ps sorry if i offended anyone, i really tried not to.

i think in general white and asian guys tend to be more of the type of people who play at arcades, but i have seen people of all races playing ddr. i think it's one of the few things that's really multi-ethnic and draws crowds of all races.
