ok im not sure where to put this so i put it in here...
So, long story short my parents are buying me a bemani machine up to the price up 2500 ( maybe higher idk) So my question is...whta kind of machine should i get??? IIDX= cost to much..... BM= No thanks...im happy with the home version PNM= i'd love one but....where do you get 1? DM= I want this the most GF= I suck so bad KBM= i love it 2nd best DDR= to much of a hassle i have a CF no need
I live in california and there are A LOT of coin-op vendors..so i was thinking PNM or DM or KBM???
P.S The main reason i want DM is cuz all of the home controllers dont feel like the arcade and the bass pedal is crap. _________________

Beatmania III. No contest. Failing that, find a Beatmania I The Final. A good DM will cost you at least $5000, and a GF isn't much cheaper. For KBM, you're honestly better off getting both home versions and a pair of controllers (since the PS2 keyboards are actually better than the arcade ones, and KBM II for PS2 has more songs than any of the three arcade versions). PNM? Good luck finding a good one for under 4 or 5 grand.

A DM will cost you around $8000 for 8th or 9th mix, around $5000 for lower mixes.
If you want to go the DM route, you could spend the money on a very nice electric drum set - about $1500 to 2000 (Roland V-drums or Yamaha DTX), rig it up with your computer and a TV (w/ some good speakers) and then you can play songs from every mix by downloading GDAs. Another bonus is that you can use it to learn the real drums with it.
I have a DTXpress II myself so i rarely need to go to the arcades anymore, plus I write a lot of custom songs. Check out my site for more info on DM sims:

That's definetly true about Pump It Up machines requiring a lot of maintence. One machine near me has been broken since January It's in a Time Out though who really doesn't care about their games I guess. Worst part is that the machine replaced Para Para Dancing about 2 years ago. |

Uh.........what? IIDX is almost as low-maintenance as DMX.
The only things that could really happen are the key LEDs burning out, and maybe having a fuse burn out because it sucks so much power.
We've had a IIDX machine here in RI for a good 4 months and it's needed little to no maintenance since it arrived. No buttons sticking, decent scratch, no worries. _________________

I agree with homei 100%. This is the route I'm going! Why get one mix, when you can simulate all? AND you can use the electronic drum set to play stand-alone, with an input such as a CD-player or computer, with headphones so you don't wake your neighbors, or/and you can learn how to actually play without having to look at a screen full of falling lines! _________________

The screans have to be replaced sometimes, or actually the bulbs for the screan, and the DVD drive breaks down after a while as well. Very costly.

Well, I'd say DDR is the best thing to get, but if any Bemani, Popn music would be my second choice....
And you can get DDR for about 2000-3000 dollars now-a-days, just look around and you can find some great prices. |

ddr is by far the easiest to obtain. Pop'n took my arcade 7 months to get up and running. Also take into consideration that no matter what game you get, your bound to get sick of it eventually. _________________

This is true, but these things also happen to just about all other Bemani as well, so calling IIDX "by far the highest maintenance machine" is still quite untrue.
If there was one machine that would be classified as THE highest maintenance machine, I'd definitely say it's either DDR or PIU - or any other dance game, for that matter. TGA here in RI is replacing all the sensors on the DDREX machine (official Konami sensors - not 3rd party), and it's costing a little under $1,000. Also, every once in a while the HDD feels like breaking down on them, and about once a week the pads are opened up for a full cleaning.
Buying a DDR machine for personal use is probably one of the worst ideas if you're planning to just buy it, put it in your living room, and expect it to keep working for years like your PS2. After a few months, something WILL happen to it, and since you're not an arcade with a wad of cash at your disposal to fix such problems, it would probably be a while before you got it working again.
The best Bemani in terms of low-maintenance is most definitely DMX. Those motion sensors LAST, and those are really the only things that would ever give you problems. Every once in a while the coin mech will probably need replacing, but that's the standard on every arcade game. Plus if you buy it for personal use, no coin mech needed ^__^
Now if only DMX was, how can I say this, a good game. _________________

YEAH RIGHT...
but anyways, I would agree that DDR is not a good Bemani machine to buy. You can buy console mixes and good pads, or Stepmania if you hate switching discs THAT much, and have a perfectly good DDR setup.
DMX would, in my opinion, actually be a good machine to buy, if you like the game. Because it isn't available in any other form. DM you can get a good drumset, up to 4thGF/3rdDM is available on PS2, plus more if you don't mind GDA's (bad people! bad! but anywho). IIDX would cost you LOTS, BM the Final would be good but any less is available for PS not to mention OUTDATED. That leaves us with what? KBM? Which is better on PS2?
...
bottom line, I'm not a fan of paying thousands extra to get the machine rather than console games. GF/DM I can understand, as it's a good series that has lagged, but DMX is the ultimate in this sense. It can even be sold for almost the same price when you get tired of the songs.
...man, it's a good thing obscure Bemani doesn't depreciate that much.
And the rambling ends... now. |

Heh. Now that my order is finished, I'll say it.
DDR Solo cabinets (monitor, cabinet, speakers, one pad - no hardware or amplifier) from Coinopexpress are $195 each. I ordered two, and am picking mine up from Chicago on the way back from Anime Central. Who knows, DDR might be fun again. _________________
