Alright, i've seen wayyyyyyyyy too many posts where people say that songs are "offbeat", it's impppppppossible for the machine to be offbeat, because it's not comparing to anything else, but, a PERSON can be offbeat, because he/she maybe not be correctly dancing/playing the the rhythm.

BUT when arrows are not lined up correctly to the beat it is called being "offsync", not offbeat.

Feel free to just delete this and stick it in the FaQ or the dictionary or something...I just think it needs to be noticed.

And yes, I'm picky, so shoot me. riiight.gif E7.gif

D8 here.. wow it's been while that I've been posting here but I'm here. ^.^; Anyway I think that makes some kind of sense. Being 'Off/on beat' is more along the lines of instincts of a person, knowing the timming of the 'beats' of music. While 'sync' is more along the lines of, Keeping track, keeping in formation. Just like the song SYNC in the DDR Extreme (On light) The song had an equal amount of formations of steps, such as... Left down up right up down left *Repeat* and then switching backwards or to a new formation. Knowing how to keep in formation and onbeat is a combonation of keeping up and staying good in DDR. E15.gif So basically keeping in formation is more learning the steps (possibly time) and going along with it than rather being onbeat is more listening to the music and knowing the timming of the consatnt 'beat' of the song.

I've seen the end of the universe, and it happens to be in Houston, Texas... I know I was shocked too. I was at the end of a street and there I saw a Starbucks...and then I turned around and across from that Starbucks, the exact same street of that StarBucks... there was a Starbucks! And that my friends...is the End of the Universe...

I understand what you're saying, but you're not necessarily correct. In musical terms, the "off beat" is the beat in between notes. So by saying the steps are "off beat", what you're really saying is that the steps are falling in between the beats. I don't think anyone uses that term in DDR to imply that the steps are running faster or slower than the actual beat of the song (unless you're talking about a sloppy user-created DWI file)

Offbeat isn't anything to do with synching on a machine. Take... Any7 K.O.G.3 (probably got that wrong) mix, where the song goes *beat*GO*beat*GO*beat*GO etc. The "GO"'s are offbeat, technically called Syncopation. In the song, if there is an arrow on each "GO" then the stepping is synopated.

Offsync is a completely different story, when either the BPM or GAP of a stepfile (I'm using SM as an example) are incorrect.

I'm sure if it was sold for profit, Konami would clamp down on it (I'm sure it's a matter of time before they clamp down on ITG).[/quote]
