This thread is for ur thoughts on how long DDR will last or be popular. I made this because a lot of people say DDR extreme is the last mix. I think it will last 3 more years. What about you? _________________

it all depends on what happens...i mean if extreme is the last mix which unfortunately is most likely the case then i give it a year and a half maybe two if lucky because extreme is already goin stale. If and a big if DDR decides to create another mix i believe it can last as long as they create new mixes. |

It depends if they stop upgrading the old mixes then people will get bored of the mixes and people will stop playing. _________________

It'll last as long as there are machines that are in working order. And people that want to play. _________________

It really depends on what Konami decides to do... I think DDR has the tendency to last a while... maybe not in the same form as we know it now. Hopefully there was some hidden meaning to the "We are starting over!" that was a sub-tag to a lot of DDR Extreme machines... _________________

Actually, there is supposedly. But it was just released recently, so no one is too sure if it's true yet. But expect some information to be released in a few weeks. _________________

Hopefully there will be someone soon who releases a 9th mix (not megamix god forbid), that is a great hacked version of extreme, but with new songs and great stepfiles derived from the best original DWIs, and something that worked well
This would be a nice prospect if Konami decided to totally abandon DDR. But, hell who knows, maybe they would make it but allow the bemani communities to make the songs, steps and theme for a 9th mix and then release that officially!. I think that something like this may be even better than what konami could come out with _________________

DDR - or something like it - will survive in one form or another. I saw a generic dance mat in BestBuy yesterday that came with its own game. I don't quite remember the name , (Super Dance Mix or some such) but it was clearly not a Konami product.

I say it'll last about a year or two past whenever they stop making DDR machines. _________________

I believe the concept of DDR will last forever. People still play Tetris today, more than 15 years after the first Tetris game and their is no sign of it dying out.
DDR has the most addictive game concept ever. The concept of DDR will survive no matter what, even if just in the form of Stepmania or In The Groove. As for DDR itself I believe that Konami will reach a point when they realize that DDR is still extremely viable in the US and the rest of the world even if it has lost popularity in Japan. This might take some time, but eventually I am sure Konami will get off it's backside and release another Arcade mix. _________________

DDR Extreme might be the last arcade mix, but definitely not the very last DDR mix. |

Home mixes are dead to me. I'd really hate to think that Extreme is the last arcade mix, there's so much more potential in the series. _________________

That's true, I hadn't really thought about that, and what you said is rather encouraging...
...only problem in my mind is that you need some extra equipment (pads) to play DDR, and inevitably at some point or another (like most controllers) they're going to stop working, then it's a question of whether or not they will be manufactured and sold forever... _________________

As long as more people demand new mixes, and keeps selling well, it probbaly won't stop anytime soon. DDR is probbaly one of the Machines that keep Arcades alive these days... _________________

I don't care how much it is popular or not, I will be playing for a long time. Like how me and a couple of friends just started up a Pokemon Group! |

You do realize that DDR is not a unique concept thought up by Bemani, right? DDR, and many other music games such as Amplitude, Samba de Amigo, and Space Channel 5 (just to name a few) were probably inspired by Sony's Parappa the Rapper. If anything, all these games are signs that the concept of Parappa will survive in the world. So yeah, it's already survived for something like seven years, so I don't think the spirit of music games is going to die out anytime soon. |
