Note: If this is the wrong board, please redirect it. I think I heard once about a sticky where you can talk about your experiences but I can't seem to find it. So until then...

I've been playing my first DDR ever, Ultramix, since the very last weekend of December 2003. Up till now I can pass some cata's [Tsugaru, Paranoia Rebirth, and Afronova], and can get an A on pretty much anything 8 ft and less. However, I've been doing this all on the home version. Yesterday [Friday], my friend Chris brought me and some friends to an arcade at the Chinatown Fair in NYC...

This was my first time on an arcade and I have to say it was disappointing. For 2 reasons.

1) The main reason. The arrows were so insensitive. I knew you'd have to press harder than a home-version pad but I was stomping this stuff! It was crazy cuz I couldn't even do spins and I could barely do any crossovers. Plus this tired me out a lot more AND made my feet hurt the rest of the day

2) The fact that the arrows are lower than the actual pad. Now, this is the first arcade/metal pad I've seen upclose, but from all the vids I've seen, the arrows are supposed to be with the pad. This threw me off because at times only half my foot would hit the pad, and softly, so it'd come up late. With the combination of both problems, I ended up getting C's or failing songs I'd normall pass without effort! T_T

Now, I'm not complaining. Infact, despite how hard it was, I ended up playing 4 times. It was a DDR Extreme Machine and it has a kickass mix of songs. Recently, I downloaded Stepmania 3.9 Alpha 13, and ordered an Xbox to USB adapter. If all goes well, I could play on my PC, like the real arcades, but without the stomping...ow.

Heh, reminds me of my first time at the arcade (2 weeks ago)

Like you I played DDR Ultramix first, then MAX 2 on PS2,

Then came the arcade, I can do a couple of standered songs, but when I played at the arcade I was barly A'ing Lights, it was still fun though.

This adds a whole new challenge for me E1.gif

Sounds like you found a bad machine. You shouldn't have to stomp hard at all if it's taken care of well.
