I like to play random all on SM a lot on the oni part of it. I like to have a variety, so I include all the songs I have. My friend gave me a vast song list, which most I haven't even played yet, but I always get some of the worst steps imagineable, with sh!itty freezes in parts and all, gah it's just gross. What are some songs that shouldn't be touched? Personally I think heavy metal songs and SM do not mix.... |

That depends entirely on what you like. Go download Wishmaster from Bemanistyle and see if you don't think that works as a DWI. _________________

There are people who think only trance/techno/whatever should be in DDR, and they even say that there are songs on DDR extreme that aren't supposed to be in DDR at all (best examples: crash, we will rock you)
I have made some stepfiles for songs that those type of people will say they don't fit into DDR. For example, Satanic Mantra, which is a-capella chanting (voices only, no instruments), and it's available on bemanistyle.
This is in the description of archowl's Lord of the Dance:

A bunch of you guys say crap like "oh, that song's not danceable" or "that type of music doesn't fit for ddr"(they're usually talking about some jpop/pedophilepop song or trance song when they're talking about something fit for ddr) when they're talking about mainly HEAVY MODE.
|
IMO any song that have a regular meter (beats) can be made into a stepfile. |

Heavy Metal songs make great .dwi's but they are hard to make.
Check out my "Four Horsemen".dwi on bemanistyle and two other good ones are "Chop Suey" and "Beyond Ability", also I am going to re-do my first .dwi "Power of thy Sword" since I've gotten better at making stepfiles.
Songs that make bad .dwi's are ummm, any song made by people who make bad .dwi's which is about 90% of everyone. I took my originals file from 1250 songs to 150 songs when I got rid of the crap.
And anything from Udderdude is sweet. I spent weeks deleting crap but it's worth it cuz now when I play a course I rarely ever get a bad song but sometimes I get an underrated file which is easy to fix. Oh and if I download anything new then I make sure to play it before putting it into one of my permanent folders. |

i just read through the thread, and was about to quote the exact same thing, and really, its just like warrior said, its just crappy MAKERS that make it bad. anyhow, i just started making stepfiles, and i think theyre decent. it has to do with this since many are "unconventional", like a number of classic rock songs and orchestra pieces. im gonna finish up a few more, then ill post em on bemanistyle, see what kinda response they get. _________________

I think just about any song can have the potential to become a good .dwi but it all depends on the person who makes the steps.
I've actually made steps to a song from Half-Life which is a good song but I didn't make the steps too well(its offbeat a lot) and I've actually made some good ones too.
As long as the steps make sense and that groove radar doesn't explode in the Stream, Voltage, and Chaos then it should be fine. |

You could PM me for the file, I also have a Brackfish file but the steps get offbeat I just played it yesterday. I will spend an hour fixing it cuz it doesn't seem beyond hope, but for some reason all metal .dwi's are 10 footers what's up with that? _________________

There are metal dwis that are less than 10 footers. You can find these in Bemanistyle:
Hallowed be thy name (1/3/7/9)
Emerald Sword (8)
The Spell (3/7/8)
Village of the Dwarves (3/7/9)
The Power of thy sword (3/6/8/9)
Every Time I Die (1/4/6/8) (in Bemanistyle forums, in a small contest called BeST WAULIT)
Where Dragons Fly (4/6/7) |

metal songs are 10 footers...well i suppose im guilty. i dont make metal ones, but i try to make my steps hard, unless of course its totally out of context with the song, in which case i just wont make the file. i feel that any steps below a hard nine or easy ten just arent worth playing on SM, since its sooo easy to AA and AAA songs (way easier than pad anyhow) and plus, i feel that im not challenged enough with most songs, or just blown away by others (blur - arch0wl), so im trying to find a "medium" hard level that isnt boring, but is challenging. _________________

I don't see a point of playing without a pad.... Unless I'm working on making a file but I will play it on a pad before I submit it.
BTW the Brackish-Kitte file is good now, at one part there was a 150BPM 1/8th stream that DID NOT FIT AT ALL so I changed it to like a 50BPM that totally goes with the song, and I re-synched some parts that were a little off, it's still a doggy to play on a pad with all those jumps at 285BPM, so if anyone wants it, I could PM the content of the .dwi file to you. I can't submit it on BemaniStyle cuz it's not mine... just like this "Kick The Can" file that I fixed it's good now but it's not mine. |

well yeah, pad is way more fun, but im still waiting on my converter, i ordered it a little bit ago. and hey, i havent submitted to bemanistyle before, so i dont know the procedure. i fixed some songs that were just terrible steps, so i COMPLETELY redid them. does that make them mine? still same art and stuff, but that can be changed, its just that it seems like my song now, since all of the steps are different, just wondering. _________________

...don't remind us.
Personally, that song...destroys the name of metal rock for DDR...sorry if anyone likes it, but it's not my favorite.
and PrayerWarrior35, most metal rock songs are 10 footers probably because they try to make it so every little noise is a step, making it hard when Metal Rock is million little noises happening at once.
Persoanlly, SM should stay away from Metal Song (opinion) becuase isnt't DDR sposed to be about Dancable songs? And banging your head up and down really isn't dancable...just what I think. _________________

Love this Feelin' sucks, try Holy Forest, thats a good one.
I finished my "power of thy sword".dwi so it's better and I'm finished with it.
The "Hallowed Be Thy Name" why why why couldn't it have been the Iron Maiden version, there are 2 cannibal corpse ones! And the heavy steps are definately a 10 footer. And with a video from 'Ninja Scroll' well I guess it's okay but too hard.
BTW, I AA'd my "Four Horsemen".dwi on heavy with a pad today!! |

I don't think bemanistyle is very organized so you may get away with it, but it is unethical. Theoretically you can use the same .mp3 but thats it, you should re-do the BPM and the GAP definately the BANNER and BACKGROND and you are supposed to redo all of the steps, which it sounds like you did, or simply e-mail or AIM the simfile creator and get his permission to submit it then your okay.
BTW: I passed Brackish on a pad yesterday!! That song has more jumps than... anything. I think I am going to try to submit it on Bemanistyle when I make std. and light steps. Does anyone know who made it? |
