Ok, I had to pick a topic out ANYTHING and I blurted out the obvious...DDR. Out of ANYTHING. Sigh.

Would anyone give me any tips for things to cover?
It's only for 3 minutes, so I only need to cover the
main things.

I am thinking of talking about the point of the game,
a brief history, excercise statistics, and so forth.

If anyone would indly help me, I would
be very thankful.

you could talk about the different modes... ex. light, standard, heavy... The difficulty of songs... when and where to step (but i bet you already thought of these things) How about how they have all the different mixes for arcades, and the games for ps2 and xbox. Talk about this website!! lol thats all the things i can think about, and i dont know if it was much help to you, but good luck! thumb.gif

is this for a school project? what? E19.gif
anyway, i would think (if you are trying to convince some one that ddr is a good game) that ddr has a 2nd mix, third mix, and so on, it has a european version of the game (dancing stage) there are songs that have been made about the game, and if the game has that many additions to it, konami had to have raised a lot of money from that game. and if they raised a lot of money, it's from people playing it, and if people play it that many times, it has to be a good game. that was it, not sure if it made that much sense, though.

I wouldn't cover difficulty modes and playing technicalities and all that. Try to focus more on the cultural aspects of it, why it isn't "just another video game". Some ideas might be

- Begin with a brief rundown of how the game looks like to someone just walking around an arcade, say, add in a basic rundown of how it's played. Key word being brief
- Mention the origins that the game has in Japan, and compare the massive popularity it had back at its peak a few years ago, also mention in passing the roots of the game in Beatmania
- Spend most of your focus on the US (presumably you're in the US?) DDR arcade community, focus on the culture of things and the jargon surrounding it (PA, SDG, Cata, Freestyle), again _briefly_, just mention what it is. Suggest reasons as to the popularity; extremely broad appeal and difficulty scope, many many ways of playing: a focus on accuracy (PA), style (Freestyling), reading skills (Modifiers and Oni courses).
- To expand on the difficulty and variety aspect a little bit, try burning a CD with say Forever Sunshine or Graduation or something easy and happy for the first track and then something insane like MaxX Unlimited on the second track. Briefly play back the first one and comment on the variety of music styles there are in DDR (maybe throw something ethnic in there like Janejana or basically anything by RevenG) and note the popular appeal of some of the easy stuff. Then switch to MaxX and then mention the Max series, the fact that they tend to clip along at about 10 steps per second and so on, that this is what keeps the expert players busy.

Note I wouldn't try the last one if you school seems really anal (this is very much Fair Use but try telling some redneck teacher that when all they think is "omg copyright! call the RIAA police!"). Litmus test: if say pointing a finger at someone and saying 'bang' is likely to get you an ISS under the eye of the school counsellor for a week or four I'd avoid it.

That should be more than enough material to work with. Remember "Perfection is achieved not when there is nothing left to add, but there is nothing left to take away". Like you said three minutes is almost NOTHING, you'll have an extremely hard time making any sort of interesting observations on DDR in that time. Weigh every sentence you include in your draft and make it good.

Heh, I'm always a sucker for homework threads. Anyway I'd better get on with MY assignment, which happens to be due in three hours. Yay Group Theory E4.gif (College Maths folks E13.gif )

I did a school science fair project comparing the health benefits of DDRing vs. regular sports biggrin.gif

DDR actually stacked up pretty well; playing "BRE\-/KDOWN!" on heavy for an hour straight with 30 second breaks in between would burn more calories than anything. Of course that may be a little tiring riiight.gif And if someone could somehow do any of the "MAX" songs for an hour (with 30 sec breaks in between) they would burn about 2000 calories (the amount you are recommended to have in one day E13.gif)

PM me and maybe I can send ya some stuff or something E1.gif

I need to work on reducing it to index card form.
Hit me up on AIM if you want the all-text version. =p

Maybe talk about the Groove Radar telling you what's in the song, talk about the song grades you receive, memory card info, doubles, singles, couple, and versus, thoghts on bar raping(don't call it that, instant F) and maybe like tournanments. And all the other guys stuff I didn't mention. Good luck!
