So what's the real deal with people who have supposedly either been severely injured or died playing DDR? The only story I've heard so far is a girl screwing up a "matrix walk" and smashing her head on the pad, killing her.

I've seen a few videos where it looks like people sustained injury, I think that the most dangerous element on the game is probably the safety bar, people try and jump over it, catch themselves on it, and flip over and smash their head on the floor or pad. I've seen people doing other tricks, like throwing their leg over the bar, catching it, and falling.

I'm just curious as to what people have seen, and if there is any concrete evidence that people have been SEVERELY (life-threatening) injured or died playing DDR.

The only thing I've heard about anyone dying from DDR is that they have all been rumors with nothing near actual evidence.

As for injuries, there's a video of the Bui Brothers and one of them tries to roll back to back over the other brother. I do believe he broke a bone when he landed incorrectly (you can see him fall). He didn't rotate fast enough as he rolled over.

I have a video of a friend who caught his leg on the bar while trying to hop over doing Dynamite Rave on light. He fell and hit the pad, surprisingly he got right back up and finished.

I think it's about damn time that a matrix walk finally hurt something other than the machine.

there's a reason why many people say "Freestyle at your own risk!" and now you know cause your gonna get hurt either stupidly or badly, it's a risky thing to perform all the moves. Me and my brother can jump over the bar and can land properly without any problem because we've practiced before we did it.

As far as people dying? Aw come on now seriously, what are the odds of someone dying from DDR? I can understand heart problems but just playing regularly? Total BS, I mean there is a warning sign on the machines but do people pay any attention to them? No they don't cause they think it's stupid and they don't play smart disturb.gif

A friend of mine had a heart attack due to playing the hardest songs in PIU and DDR all day.. Not a rumour.

I'm sure if it was sold for profit, Konami would clamp down on it (I'm sure it's a matter of time before they clamp down on ITG).[/quote]

If there were news reports of people died by playing DDR would be legit. I hope nobody accoplish this.

The video of the Bui Bros is avaliable on this site, right?

Only way I could see someone dying is major head trauma, or someone just simply over doing it and having heart failure.

Agreed. DDR CAN be dangerous, as long as you don't do anything stupid. That's why I don't freestyle. Injury-wise, I've had my ankle fold under me when I fell off doing Can't Stop Fallin' in Love Speed Mix. I also pulled a groin muscle and woke up in so much pain the next morning that I couldn't walk (I already blew out my left leg playing tennis).

The only injury I've had in DDR was when I fell trying to spin on Synchronized Love Heavy (Double). I got a permanent scar from the damn bolt.

Yup.

I injured myself once on DDR. Niq and I were playing Let Them Move at the Gameworks in Vegas. I did a kneedrop and felt a slight pain. I thought "Whoops, that kinda sucked."

After the song I looked down and blood was running all down my leg.

The moral of the story is "Never do a knee drop, even when you're mocking people."
