well they could have just moved it here so umm...lazy mods..
This site is kewl and everything i just get bored of this emoticons that we have...i wondering that they should get more emoticons some really kewl ones and if they need help i have whole bunch on my site to donate..

Let me guess, someone locked your thread as opposed to moving it? It's not that we're lazy, it's that if we moved everyone's threads (just like before) then no one would care about putting it in the right place (just like before). Instead, threads would be place in the wrong forums a lot more (...just like before).
Care to give any suggestions as to what would be some good new emoticons?
I like the ones we have right now.

I'd like to add that moving a topic isn't supported very well in phpBB. You have two options:
1. Move the topic without leaving a shadow thread.
2. Move the topic while leaving a shadow thread.
A "shadow thread" is a thread stub left in the old forum which redirects you to the new forum. If a moderator moves a topic without the shadow topic, generally nobody is smart enough to say "Hey...my topic disappeared. I wonder if it got moved...", choosing instead to rant "My thread got d3l3t3d by the n00b m0dz!"
Leaving a shadow topic is a good choice, but phpBB will bump the shadow topic anytime the thread itself gets bumped, which means that a topic which was started, say, 10 weeks ago in the wrong forum that got immediately moved would *still* haunt that old forum. People would get annoyed at it, it would reduce the visibility of the threads that *belong* there, and it would cause confusion as to what exactly is and isn't off-topic for a forum.
That said, I also like Spike's rules. If you're lazy and you know that a thread will be moved to the correct place when you post it, then why bother posting anywhere correctly?

You CAN delete the shadow topic without deleting where the actual discussion is going on (click on "You Can Moderate This Forum" where it shows your permissions in the bottom right hand corner of a forum, and put a check box next to the shadow topic, and click delete....but that is the ONLY way to do it) but locking things instead of moving them does help people to realize that they should put their topics where they belong. If you look at the FAQ it even tells you that moderators are there to keep you from going off topic, therefore justifing the lock.
Anyway, I think that the smilies here are really good ones....I've actually been trying to figure out where this smilie pack came from so I get get them....

So you want an emoticon that is a broken dance pad? I would assume you'd want to use that to say that a pad is broken?
Why not just use the text? If we had all sorts of random emoticons then images would have a lot more random crap in them as opposed to being understandable. I know that I'd get annoyed with seeing messages like "OMG my *image of broken dance pad*." That could be interpreted in a couple different ways even.
When we first had the new arrow icons THOSE were spammed by all sorts of people in their posts as well.

I say less emoticons. What the hell is wrong with :) ?
When I see one of the freak emoticons I ignore it. If it's in a conga line with seven other smilies I ignore the whole post. If you're having trouble expressing your feelings with plaintext, buy a thesaurus. |

| .. WRT moving topics, it also takes forever. It's much quicker to just slap someone on the wrist and lock their topic. Otherwise they will never learn. |

What's funny is it used to not work that way. There is no logical reason for a shadow topic to bump; I don't know if it was a mistake or if they purposely added that "feature" for no reason, but it's dumb.

You probably had a browser error, or got disconnected while posting. Generally posts don't get deleted with no explanation unless it's stuff like accidental double-posting.

Shadow topic bumping is handled by phpBB, not PHP. The PHP version shouldn't have an effect... I think  .

In phpBB 2.0.6, shadow topics do not get bumped with the thread they shadow, though I doubt it would be all too easy to upgrade at this point so the side effects of shadowing remain.
I believe the behaviour has something to do with how the threads are sorted (by last post date?). If you edit the SQL query used for selecting the threads, this problem should go away. Sort by topic_id and all will be well. |
