Has anyone here noticed that there are some songs (321 Stars, Genom Screams, R3) that appear to sound like they were just slightly remixed between different games? I've clearly noticed some subtle differences after playing those three on a Beatmania III (7th Append Core Dealie) machine versus DDR Extreme and, for R3 and GS, Konamix, and for Home Extreme 321 Stars. |

Uh... yeah.
Konamix had a slightly different The Earth Light (basically had the moaning noises taken out) to make it more kid-friendly presumably. A similar sort of thing happened with INSERTiON from IIDX to DDR (except not taken out, just muted somewhat)
Beatmania IIDX songs can be up to 2 minutes long especially in the later mixes, DDR songs cap off at 100 seconds (1:40), max, so a lot of songs got remixed to cut them down (A, V, Frozen Ray, Happy Wedding, etc)
DXY! on DDR sounds like complete ass compared to the IIDX version. Seriously, the IIDX ver sounds MUCH better. Why this is the case, I don't know.
Max 300 sounds different on IIDX... it's the Max 300 tune played with the MaxX instruments
and of course 20, November had about 20 bajilliion remixes on Beatmania I/IIDX/III and I don't think any of them sound too much like the DDR version (funny that so many people associate 20, November with DDR when it's like the B4U of Beatmania. And 19 November is massively better anyway, although it's a completely different song from 20) |

19, November is so much better than 20. I've noticed that people associate the songs to DDR rather than look at the banners to see where in fact they come from. I have explained to countless DDR players that is what the little spinning logo means in the corner. I suppose we all learn over time and DDR just seems to be the most common introduction to the wide world of Bemani. _________________

I actually like the Konamix version of The Earth Light better. They focused more on the synth so it doesn't sound as much like a minute and a half of clanging metal.
The print-out that I write my scores down on has the songs listed by game (as if you only changed the sort once), and I've been using that sorting style for the past year or so. Because of this, I have a little better idea of what songs came from what games. _________________

Well, actually, I have been wondering this too, only I notice it with almost every song. All the songs on the home version sound slightly different to me than in the arcade. I noticed it first with Breakdown, then I noticed it with CSFIL:SM. Now its a lot of songs. They just sound more sparse in the home versions. Meh, maybe its just different speakers and junk. _________________

I noticed that too. Listen to just about every song on 7th style thats in DDR, and you will notice a LOT of tiny different sounds.
Dont Stop! is different on IIDX though. _________________

That's because it's a completely different mix of the song.

Yeah, a lot of times songs are altered from Beatmania to DDR simply because of time. I think there's only one DDR song that's broken the previously mentioned 1:40 limit on DDR, that being Kakumei.Forsome reason, though, I want to say Kakumei breaks that limit and clocks in somewhere around 1:50. Not sure on that though.
Getting back to the original subject, though, I have noticed the slight remixing myself. 321 Stars sounds slightly different on Extreme from how it does on Beatmania Complete Mix 2. I've also noticed this on Peace Out (some differences between the DDRMax US version and the Beatmania version). Another one I've noticed is in Aoi Shoudou, at the 1:04 mark in the DDR version, when the lyrics go "Toki wa tsukuru mono" the first syllable of "toki" is held out for a few seconds, and that isn't done in the IIDX version of the song. I actually like the DDR version better because of that. |

Is that limit across all DDR games? I remember Nemesis in UM1 Song Pack 3, it crossed 2 minutes. And there are probably other examples out there too. _________________

That's because it's a completely different mix of the song. | Because it goes into a minor chord a couple of times. _________________
