I feel stupid asking this. How do you get a AA. I thought to get a AA you had to get all perfects and greats, but sometimes iu will get all perfects and greats and it won't give it to me, or i will get 1 or 2 goods and it will. So how does this work?? _________________

You have to get 20% or less non-Perfects to get a AA. _________________

20% or less non-perfects is wrong (sorry).
In order to get a AA, on 5th mix and higher, you need 93% of the possible dance points (DPs) on a song. Each step rating is worth a certain number of DPs, and we'll get to that. The total dance points you can get on a song is:
DP = 2 x # of steps + 6 x # of freezes
Now, the various step ratings are worth DP as follows:
Perfect = 2
Great = 1
Good = 0
Boo = -4
Miss = -8
OK = 6
NG = 0
So the calculation is pretty complicated unless you work it out to be a perfect/great ratio, so each step rating translates into this many greats:
Great = 1 ( )
Good = 2
Boo = 6
Miss = 10
OK = -4 (complicates things a little)
NG = 2
If you do it that way, you can have a perfect/great ratio as low as 43/7, or about 16 greats for every 100 perfects you get.

A AA in 4th Mix Plus and below is the equivalent of a AAA on anything higher (100% DPs). _________________

Since I highly doubt most people carry a calculator with them to the arcade...
16/100 is roughly twenty percent, thus using the estimate of about 20% non-Perfects is still an okay way to go. _________________

But that only works if all the "non-perfects" are greats. If you get 20% misses, you're not even gonna get a C, much less a AA |

Iterations of 4th Mix were the only ones with the craptacular engine that made everything a C or B unless you full combo'ed, which got you the A, or got a 100% PA, which was the AA. On 5th Mix, you could get a full combo of a 100% great attack and get a AA (trust me, i've come close to doing just that). And, I am reasonably sure (this is one I could be wrong on, however...) that one could actually get a AAA with a full combo and 90% perfect on some of the very old mixes.
The basic thrust of it is that you can get around 80% perfect (6th Mix and up) and if it's reasonably close to a full combo, it'll most likely be a AA. On the older mixes, a full combo should do the trick. Yes, one can analyze it further, but frankly, most of us have better things to do with our lives.
Edit: Evidently, I suck at posting today, so I apologize for any errors, inconsistencies, and just sucking at life. _________________
