ok, on sunday I ordered the EMS USB2 adaptor for my old ps and ps2 pads. Problem is, I still haven't gotten my tracking number, and acoording to the site, all in stock items(which mine is) ship out within 24 hours, so shouldn't I at least have a tracking number by now? btw I chose 2 day-air. oh, and any feedback on the adaptor that I bought would be appreciated.

ok smartass....i was askin cause lots of adaptors can't handle the voltage requirements of dance pads, and im pretty sure a metal pad is heavy on voltage. so, does anyone have a metal pad that works with the EMS USB2 adaptor?

why would a metal pad require more power than a softpad? The circuitry is the same.

yeah i wish that thing is nice..........anyways thanks for the input, but I think I'm just gonna stick with the RedOctane Ignition Pad 2.0. Just curious, does anyone have one, and how are they? I'm gonna get one to use with stepmania but I'm just hopin it'll work since it has led's...

I have the Ignition 2.0 pad and I just received my PS-USB Converter V ( http://www.jandaman.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=psxusb5 ). Without any documentation I just downloaded and installed the drivers. Played around with the settings and finally got the thing to work.

However, here is the problem;
The steps seem to register too slow into Stepmania. Like I would press up correctly and receive something other than a perfect of great; and this happens half the time. It seems to work fine in the menu while scrolling but I guess the intensity of input (steps) overwhelms the USB adapter???

I'm trying to figure this thing out and so far I have concluded that maybe it is my 145watt PS and the mediocre 600mhz celeron processor. The USB 1 is also a suspect (since the converter claims compatibility with USB2), but does USB2 provide more power? Maybe it's just those darn useless six 5mm LEDs on the pad.

im hopin that mine doesn't do that with the leds since I ordered an Ignition pad off levelsix.com. however, using the EMS USB2 adaptor with some piece of crap playstation pad works fine and there is no lag whenever I press an arrow.

Zgok: Forget the USB or the LED theory. USB ports work so frickin' fast, even at 1.1, that you couldn't overload the thing if you tried. And LEDs take so little power compared to what's output by the USB port then there shouldn't be any problem. I used a parralell port adapter before that puts out almost no power, and the LEDs will dim before any steps will be missed.

I think your problem is almost certianly the CPU or the Power Supply. I'm supprised that with a CPU like that Stepmania never has any problems. Depending on the video card, I've seen it require at least 1.5Ghz before it will reliably not-skip or freze in the middle of songs. What kind of video card are you running?

I used to run StepMania on a PIII-450MHz with a GeForce2 MX PCI. Once I turned off vsync and set the display mode to 1024x768 16-bit, I had no problems. If I remember correctly, even bg movies ran ok.

The main reason everything ran fine was the video card. If I had a worse video card, then I would've had to lower some more settings.

Go to %stepmaniadir%\data\stepmania.ini and change BoostAppPriority to 0. If that doesn't fix the problem, change it to 1.

Well, I'm going to try that advice arnoct. Anyways,

145 PSU
600 Celeron
256 pc100 RAM
15 GB Quantum HDD
Samsung 40x12x40 CD-RW
Radeon 7500 Pro (using PCI slot)
Optical Mouse and USB keyboard
Generic Floppy
PCI LAN and Modem

Maybe it's that the radeon is taking too much power? but the LEDs on the pad never fail to lit and I've read somewhere that they consume the most power.

Stepmania has no problems when using the keyboard. Of course I'm running at 640x480 res with vsync off.

Anyways, I plan on replacing the aging celeron even though it runs pretty smooth plus generates virtually no heat at all. Great processor. Heard the Pentium4 As <2.0Ghz run pretty cool.
