either 1. you're using a laggy playstation adapter
or 2. they really are off-snyc. fix them yourself and/or stop complaining.
or 3. they seem to be fine for the rest of us. stop complaining.
1 and 3 are the most likely. |

Well, anyway, here's some helpful hints...
1. Next time, if you have any complaints on steps in terms of smoothness or performance, tell us your computer's specifics, especially processor, RAM, and video card.
2. Try using DWI, SM sucks a crapload of resources and is only intended for high end machines.
3. I've found SM 3.0 final to be a TINY bit smoother than the alphas... Try that?
4. Check if your drive is fragmented or has too much on it, that might be a cause...
As for the stepfiles themselves, they are correct. DDRUK has proven thier reliablility plenty of times. I experienced the same problem and checked the BPM, gap, etc on many sites and also did a test with Xstep to go even further. They were perfect... (The reason why they slowed was because my antivirus program began to run it's scheduled check...)
Hopefully that'll fix your problem... _________________

What do you want US to do?
Take it up with the Step Files forum at DDRUK. The mods are very responsive over there. |

The simfiles are not off. It could be either the regional gap value, which no one but you can do anything about, your simulator, which no one but you can do anything about (I.E change it.) or your computer, which again, only you can do anything about. _________________

I'm sure if it was sold for profit, Konami would clamp down on it (I'm sure it's a matter of time before they clamp down on ITG).[/quote]

Okay, get this straight Pablo, the files are fine... Lawrence is one of the better step file coders out there and doesn't make mistakes as bad as you claim...
It is your computer or your global gap (Look for that in your options)...
Or maybe you're not as good as you think you are! (Blaming the stepfiles... Bleh!)
And think of it this way, if the stepfiles were that off, ALL OF US AT DDR FREAK WOULD HAVE NOTICED THAT A LLLLLLLLLLLLLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNGGGGGGGGGGG time ago!!! The sim commuinity has been going to DDRUK for a very long time...
[horizontal scrolling makes Spike cry. Don't do it again]
Anyway, that's enough rage for today... _________________

Wow. People sure get defensive.
Pablo, post "info.txt" from the SM program directory.

Huh? That doesn't make sense. If it's a bug in StepMania, how is he the only one that can do anything about it? :) |

I think he meant as far as the settings he has for his simulator are concerned, like DWI's Global Gap. That's something he'll have to play with for himself.
Another thing to keep in mind is that I believe DDRUK creates their stepfiles with DWI rather than SM in mind, and as anyone who's played any stepfile in both simulators can attest, the two simulators will more often than not start the arrows at different times. They each use the gap differently; for what reason, who knows, but it's one difference between the two programs. That said, he might have better luck with the stepfiles if he uses DWI; no guarantees for SM. _________________

Except for exceptional cases ("lagged speakers", maybe wireless), you should never have to touch that yourself. If you do, it's usually a bug, either in the program, your drivers or your hardware. If it's in the program and I can get enough information on the problem, then I can do something about it.
If it's in the drivers or hardware, and there's no real fix (newer drivers) available, it might be the only option, though.

I think this is often an issue with MP3 itself. I can't understand why people are still using MP3 for this: it's very bad at synchronization. Vorbis is much more robust, deterministic, it's supported by both DWI and SM--for the purposes of these games, it has no drawbacks compared to MP3 and a ton of major advantages.

^^
open up STEPMANIA 3.9\DATA\STEPMANIA.ini ...
go to the line GlobalOffsetSeconds
set it to:
GlobalOffsetSeconds=-0.450000
or something... as long as its negative it should fix ur problem. if it makes it worse, make the numbers positve. I have a similar problem, im thinking its probably cuz of the lag from my keyboard arrows though HOW can we pinpoint the problem for sure? |

If he is having sync problems in lots of files that are synced for other people, then he's very likely seeing a bug, either in his drivers or in StepMania, which I'm very interested in getting information about. Posts like this, dismissing it off-handedly, make it harder for me to get information about problems. Please stop.
(It wasn't even a meaningful suggestion: if you have sync problems with a step file, you don't "make your own"; you fix the sync problem.) |
