Ok, this site is WAYYY too organized and I'm always posting in the wrong spot... so I'll just apologize in advanced
Alright... I've pretty much killed my 2 MadCatz Beatpadz (all I could find) They both have a 5 year warranty... I've only had them for a max of 3 months. Anyway, I'm thinking about purchasing some metal pads (although I hear they're like $300us per pad!?!?)
So, I just want to know if anybody has had any luck with brands of soft mats (or metal ones)

*Please don't lock this thread... I'm REALLY interested in it. If there's already one around, PM me w/ the link. Thanks a lot! _________________

There are 2 stickies up at the top of the thread list, one about hard pads, one about soft pads. Might want to check those out a little bit.
Metal pads can cost from $200 to $300 (to $129 off ebay - not really recommended) depending on what you get.
Soft pads cost from $15 to $100. Redoctanes are good in the $100 pricerange, BNS are good in the $50 pricerange, and you can get 2 lower-end pads shipped @ ebay for $20
The choice basically depends on personal preference, willingness to mod the pats, and how much you plan to keep playing. Again, check the other 2 threads for lots more hard/soft pad info.
Btw, you can build your own hard pad too for about $130. Look in the Homebuilt pad thread for more info on that. _________________

Knee-ill: Lemme check it out! Sounds interesting
Narsil: I vagly remember that home-made metal pad, I'll check it out again
Any reason as to why I can't just by a used PS2 controller and mod it into a metal-pad? Or is there something imprinted in the chip that identifies it?

I believe you can just buy a psone controller and mod it into a metal pad. There's more info on the homebuilt hard pad thread. _________________

Ok, I'm gonna go with this. Even if it's a flop, I'll still have A LOT of fun making it.
--> Metal Frame
--> Lexan Buttons
--> 3rd Party, Used PS2 Controller.
--> Pressure Switches
--> LED's
Gonna open the controller (to get the board out), make a metal frame, and use Lexan (S T R O N G & clear) to make the button 'covers'. I'm going to wire the pressure switches to the board, and also wire up an LED (or more) to create that Arcade-esque Lighting effect. I figure it shouldn't be much over $200 (CAN)
That's my basic plan... in REALLY basic form. I reall don't think it'll be any harder than that though...

If you require any further assistance, I believe the Homebuilt Metal Pad Thread could help. _________________
