Main Question :: Do RedOctane Ignition 2.0 Covers Prevent The Ripping Of The Top Portion Of The Pad With The Wireing In It?
Here's My Story . . . It'd Be Helpful If You Read It Before You Reply.
I recieved the DDR Max 2 Game with two RedOctane Ignition 2.0 pads for Christmas. I weigh a good 110 pounds, and I'm 15. My heaviest friend that plays this game is a good 150 pounds. Since Christmas (a good three weeks), we have played for aprox. 26 hours of game time. Most of these games have been on standard mode, so its getting a beat down from our feet.
After moving to heavy mode, I noticed that my RedOctane Ignition 2.0 Pad ripped in the edges of the middle where the logo is. There's a square in the middle of the pad and around the perimeter of that is where the ripping occours. I opened the pad to see the inside, and there were rips, larger ones in the same general area. I am currently getting the pads replaced. . .
After reading about mods, I realized that the face cover was the only one that seemed like it would work for my problem. The pads respond extremely well and they do not slide on my carpet hardly at all. The rips however, will probably end up causing the pads to short out.
I was wondering about this cover you could purchase from Red Octane for $15.00. My theory is this :: It eliminates slipping on your pad, which would eliminate the motion of the top of the pad. When you would step on it without the cover, the pressure would be going in the direction you were steping, causing immense stress on the pad, and then causing it to rip. With the cover on, the pressure would be directed straight down into the pad, which wouldn't hurt the top portion of the pad with all of the wireing.
Is my idea correct? I want to use this cover to eliminate rips. THAT IS ALL I WANT IT TO DO. I do not wish to use shoes. I can live without using shoes to make my pad last longer.
Any help is wonderful!

P.S :: Why does the cover cover everything besides the top right, or is that just how its displayed in a picture? And how thick is this piece of whatever the hell it is? It does not state what the materieal is made of. |

the cover i don't think would help, however i don't own one...
I own a Red Octane Ignition 2.0 and i haven't had any rips yet after over 26 Hours of use... I THINK what cause of the rips could be is the fact that the top of the mat has a little bit of extra material (just a little) so when you get to close to the edge of the pad and have the other foot off the pad (which occurs more in the heavier songs) it'll stretch out the extra material and cause a rip when the force of your foot shoving the side of the mat can't hold the force and breaking when it gets too weak and gose farther and farther... what might help (i haven't tried this) is maybe somehow support the sides so that the fabric won't stretch and not rip... also it'd be good if the support was removable to so that you can buy extra inserts for when you pad get's too squished...
hope this helps and that you can understand what i'm trying to say...
What i do with my pad is i got myself used to stepping on the arrows in the middle, that also didn't stretch it... |

Thanks for the input!
Maybe I do not understand what you are saying but . . . I am fairly sure I have been steping in the middle of the arrows considering the arrows have like indents in them from being steped on in 1 spot so many times. Do you think the mod where you cover it with hardwood floor covering and put it on a board would help the top portion of the pad not slide at all? On PitterPanda's input, at the end, it says "Now you can slide on your DDR mat without messing it up!"
I remember sliding on my pad to do hit the right combonation in heavy songs. (As in hit left then down and quickly drag the foot to right arrow) I think that could be the main problem. PitterPanda's idea seems to help this. . .(Idea listed above) Any more imput? |

sliding would probally do the same thing... stretch that excess material...
only thing i'm not sure about with putting something on top is that i don't know if it would be heavy enough to make the sensors go off... |

Yes . . . I am going to try a new idea from him for my pads when I get new ones. The idea is to create a wooden frame that fits snugly around the pad without hurting the top portion that makes a light. It will have a hole in the top for the controller port and have the same height of my pad. With a good 2 inch width, this should prevent the top or bottom of the pad moving around at all. That way, you can slide on the pad without causing stress on the pad going in any direction.
When you slide and push left, the top of the pad will go left, but hit the wood frame and reduce the pressure. I'm talking a small buttocks distance that should make a large deal. I will post if it works! |
