You know in Max, Max2, and prob all other home ps2 games, there's a workout mode with a calorie counter and how much you weigh.

How accurate is that, really?

It seems that it bases how heavy you are and for every time you step on any arrow, it says u lost .05 of a calorie or something.

So, how accurate is that really? I could do a 6-9 foot song and lose around 30-40 cal. on average. But, are three or four songs really equivalent to running a mile? (100 cal.)

I highly doubt that, since playing 3 songs is like playing for 6 or 7 min, and I don't think its the same as running a 6-7 min. mile.

Then again, walking a mile would let you lose the same amount of weight?

Any input? Suggestions?
Thanks.

I think you have a misinformed perspective on what a kcal is...but I don't know either. I saw an explanation on it once but I didn't understand a word of it nerd.gif erm.gif

1 Kcal = 1000 calories (with a lower case c) or 1 Calorie (upper case C)

*shrugs* thats all I know/remember/think I know

Its based off a traditional cardio chart that calculates how much you burn based on your activity. If your hitting more buttons, obviously your going faster according to the machine. The more you weigh, the more you burn, and thats true in cases of someone thats unfit.

The work out charts are based on the average 18-22 year old category. While it does give you a calorie count at the end, remember that its only a guideline, and your results will vary if you step differently or use other types of workout equipment with it. Also if you regularly work out or play DDR, you are probably burning less calories than what its saying on the screen.

I would never use workout mode. It is way too easy. If you want a real workout just play for 45 minutes on game mode.

But Workout Mode is the same thing as Game Mode...

Unless I've been living a lie!

I believe Drachma is correct, Workout Mode eliminates some of the steps I think. I remember playing Afronova on Light Mode, and the steps at the end were different during Workout Mode.

No the steps are exactly alike. But, if you have the workout mode on the first difficulty setting it will only let you got up to light. So the steps may have seemed different if let's say for instance, you put the workout mode on light but picked heavy, you would only get the light steps.

Try playing a song with odd steps on Workout Mode. I just now confirmed what I said earlier about Afronova on Light, the steps at the very end were in fact different. All of the straight-forward steps are the same, but if there's any 1/4 steps or anything like that, at least on Light Mode, they are eliminated. Try it and see, or explain it another way.

its true, there are also no freeze arrows in workout mode. btw, the calorie counter is incredibly inaccurate. by hitting every arrow except the one i was supposed to, it said i burned 0 calories, when i was in fact pretty tired

You can turn on options to bring back freeze arrows and make DDR count non-gameplay arrow steps.

Not sure about the PS2 mixes, but Ultramix steps in workout mode are the same as game mode as long as you select "Normal" difficulty. Once you're in the song list, just tap double down to then break out of Light steps and into Standard and Heavy steps.

I don't remember the name of the menu item (on PS2's MAX2) but in the workout menu there is an item that you can turn on or off that determines if you do the original step pattern or a "light" version of the pattern created to be a good low-impact cardio workout.

Err... That's a joke, right? It actually does count calories even if you step on an arrow you're not supposed to, unless of course you've been stepping on the floor AROUND the matt E4.gif

Yeah nheyne bast_imret beat me to the answer. And, Aimbot was playing with the arrows on the "fixed" setting one can change this in the options menu. However, I think he was just trying to be funny. And as someone said the default feeze arrow setting is off. One need just turn them on when they start diet mode or maybe even in the mod menu.

there different options in workout mode such as having only 1/4 notes but you can put it on regular steps just like game mode too.

I have no idea, wish I did though.

I tried stepping a few times, it was like .039 calories per step, that's cool.
