freestylers vs. heavy steppers

which do u perfer? the ddr'ers who can lik bust out FS on slower songs (to say) or the ddr'ers who play all heavy songs?? and tell me why.

for me i perfer the freestyle'ers, cause to me, that shows skillz. it shows to me that, the ddr'ers put some time to memorize, study, and look nice when they dance.

but like for the heavy steppers, they have skillz, but none that i care about. i care about style. what about u??

In the beginning I used to just be into combo'ing out a song, but then after a horrid tournament loss, I went went to freestyling. I was really good at it so I continued, but I realized it was a lot of work just to have someone favor you in their opinion. So, now I just recently turned PA and I don't think I am that half bad at it now.

Hmmm...I there was a crowd of people watching me, I should freestyle because you are showing your style! but I wished I could freestyle though!

Normally I'm more of a technical player and I like playing that way because it's good excercise for me since I'm tying to lose weight. Hey this game gives you a better sweat than going to the gym and getting bored stepping on the stair master or bike, whatever. Yeeeaa!

I tried freestyle once, but I just looked like a crackhead and made an idiot out of myself. That's why I stick to technical PA. I'll stealth occasionally, but not try to do any "moves."

I would prefer to watch a decent freestyler over someone who can just play heavy, but I find PA more of a challenge than freestyle.

I would actually prefer someone who can do both well. I play heavy songs and I occasionally freestyle in some songs. But, It would be nice if someone can be well-rounded and do both.

nope. im not offended. you should of just went all out. but i can understand what you're saying though. alot of freestyle movies i see, alot of people act like a dumbasses. but then there are some who like, take freestyling seriously. studying all the steps. puting time to do certian moves on certain steps. and so on and so on.

I prefer technical PA. Simply because, if you want to look good dancing, why are you doing it on a video game? Why not go to a club? Technical players are playing the game, and high scores look better to me than a great routine.. People that can mix freestyle moves in *with* their combo/perfect attack are the ones that get my attention.. Like I saw a guy a few days ago mixing floorwork in and getting a high combo on Dead End heavy. That was impressive.

I love seeing anyone that can freestyle well. I also like seeing technical players. Each bring a different kind of special to the table. There is skill in coming up with a dance on the fly. There also is skill in trying to SDG or AAA a song on heavy or standard.

While I was once tilted toward technical players, I figure they're both equally good.

I love to see freestylers, but not like the dumbasses you know. But 1st things 1st, what are technical players?? HAHA. There are only heavy steppers at my place, and like me and my brother are the only freestylers so far.
Heavy steppers I would consider very good, but I want to see actual skills I guess. And I have never seen anyone try and do PA. They always do, heavy steppers, new beginers, or uhhh heavy steppers.

I enjoy watching real freestyle, I like to dance (Not on a machine) and try to do some moves on my own, I have the potential but I don't have the knowledge -Sigh- But anyway back to the topic; I see the heavy steppers having very good skill... I mean they can follow very well the screen or even remember some of the stuff. A guy and his girlfriend (Both into DDR) Are heavy steps and I give them very much respect because I know I don't have a chance... Can't even do standard yet

But oh well I will soon enough. And the freestyle I give much respect too because they took the time to express their rhythm beyond the four squares. I'm a little in the middle at this point, no real moves yet but I'm expressing more feeling into the song while trying to get a good score... Say Butterfly I remember the steps and the beat so I get a good score, but I put a little more zeal into it. Where as Captain Jack I just want to get the best score. So yeah I'm both but not extreme.

I know exactly how you feel, PA'ers have the scores, freestylers just look good...and they don't necessarily have to memorize every song they play on... sometimes I'll just random light shuffle a song and improv something to it, but not as a serious routine... it's just more fun.

Anyway to solve the problem of being called a no-skill freestyler at the same time, I usually bust out the MAX300 heavy after 2 FS runs, or something to show I'm not just BS'ing my way through the game

...although for people who don't have any idea what DDR is, they wonder what the hell I'm doing that 3rd time cause it breaks the flow. I figure being a little well rounded is good though, I'm not the best PA'er (I'm happy just passing hard songs, latest achievement passing Para Survivor on heavy and Cartoon Heroes heavy), and I like to focus more on freestyle, but either way I'm havin fun really.

And on the matter of a lot of "assholing" in freestyle routines, yeah I've seen a lot of more recent videos and they're starting to degrade to cheap inside jokes between the judges and the performers, and these usually result in the contestant winning the competition it would seem. Though you still get spectacular performances that aren't just cheap blows, you know, ones that the person really shows they put a lot of time into (JTF's Last Message struck me that way). Sometimes I've watched some routines and wondered how they got any positive scores at all, let alone placed o_O... (not gonna name any names though). Because to me, STOMPSTOMPSTOMPSTOMPSTOMP (insert joke no one gets here) STOMPSTOMPSTOMP isn't a routine to me. It's something I could throw together in 2 seconds if I knew the judges

It just sounds sort of dorky. I don't know. It's sure is funny as hell when I say it to myself.

Anyway, I'm all for tech play. Last time I checked DDR wasn't a dancing game so I don't know why everyone calls it that!!!

All you are doing is just keeping beat with your feet rather than your hands as opposed to (insert any other bemani game here).

It just seems like people lack so much originality when it comes to FS'ing. I guess I've seen too many improve routines. But the idea of FS'ing just sounds kind of dumb to me when considering that it practically goes against what you are really supposed to be doing.

Besides I'd pay money to see monster PA'ing than FS'ing any day of the week. It's just 1000 times more impressive.

Unless it was a REALLY REALLY good freestyle performance... but PA is just boring to watch now... it's kinda like... oh wow...another AAA... yay. *Walks away*... And DDR is whatever you want it to be... it can be a technical game, a dancing game (hence the name -DANCE- dance -REVOLUTION- .... REVALOTIEON!!!@%$!), a picnic mat (not recommended), a rave stage, a stripping pole, a jungle gym, a seizure machine, or a jukebox...

Personally, if it's not in a competition, FS doesn't need to be all that original in my opinion. It's your time to do whatever you wanna do... but when you get into that tourney scene, you know if you aren't performing your own work, someone's gonna call you on it/you aren't likely to win.

i'm a freestyler, so i luv to see otherz freestyle and bust out stuff and use that in rutines. But i love to see people bust fatty comobs trough the hole song and get AAA's. I used to be a tech person, but then i reolized that i was too fat so i decited to freestyle, but i enjoy both but freestyle more

ok, im disgusting at freestyling (really bad), im decent at hard songs... so yeah, im a bother!

i mainly like to improv light songs, but my improv just consists of spinning and hand drops, not like phrek who can liquid and lock to any song he wants, yes, including psmo
