It's rare to find someone who freestyles DDR. It's harder to find someone who does it seriously and does it well. Considering that the game is call Dance Dance Revolution, you would think it wouldn't be that hard to find freestylers. I have a theory on this.

Good freestyling requires at least one of or a combination of the following:

-Creativity
-Courage to possibly make an buttocks of yourself
-A good grasp of rythm
-Dancing ablity
-Willingness to put time into a routine

Theory: Most DDR players are not good dancers in the trational sense, therefore many DDR players do not freestyle.
Think about it. It's easier to to concentrate on the PA/Tech aspect of the game because it involves little creativity. You simply pratice the timing of your steps repetativly. Putting together a routine for freestyle requires you to put time into making up a routine, practicing it and fine-tuning it.

Not to knock anyone to does PA/Tech. It's hard as crap learning how to AAA Max300 or So Deep. However, there is a different degree of diffculty involved. Dancing requires a certain confidence and ablity that everyone does not have. Even if you put the time into dancing, there are certain moves that even a veteran dancer could never do. However, you can teach almost anyone to PA at DDR if they are willing to put the time into it. Chances are you can learn to AAA a song on DDR faster than you can learn to do complicated corography.

I could be wrong, I could be right. What do you all think?

I honestly like FS better than PA.

1: It's more fun to watch than PA
2: It takes commitment and a different type of practice
3: can change your FS's around
4: In my opinion it's more fun E13.gif

Freestyle can be really fun to watch, but I kinda like the idea of blending style and technical abilities together. It's all fine and dandy being able to actually dance on a DDR machine, but when some people only do so on songs where there's like one step per two seconds it's kind of boring. Being able to look good playing a seven-plus-footer takes a bit of both skill and style, though.

Doesn't stop me from appreciating a good routine, though. ^_^
