emsusb2 stops working after 1-2 minutes of usage?

Hey all,

I've read a lot of the topics here, but none of them really seem to cover this. I recently got a metal pad as a present (make/model unknown, no manufacturers' name on it), and I happily plugged it into my EMSUSB2. After about a minute of play, it stops taking input from either port. It is still feeding power -- the LEDs on the pad will light up -- but I have to restart the computer for it to re-recognize the EMSUSB2 input.
I do not think my EMSUSB2 is one of the LED problem batch. I use it quite frequently with some Ignition 1.0s that have 4 LEDs in the top of the pad with no problem. However, this new metal pad has significantly more LEDs (6 for each arrow), so that may be a factor. If it helps, my EMSUSB2 is black.

I have tried this with DWI and Stepmania, fiddled with all settings that people suggest would help. Any ideas? This is sort of breaking my heart, to have this lovely pad unusable.
