That would be so very awesome! But as cool as that sounds, I really don't ever see it happening. If cheerleading can't even be considered as a sport, then I most certainly can't see them making a video game classify as a sport. Although, if ever the case, I may actually have a shot at the Olympics! I can see it now, DDR Extreme machine in Athens while loads of players from all over the world playing in tight jumpsuits to I Do, I Do, I Do on Heavy _________________

It's a video game. Not a sport.
Granted, it's a video game where you do physical activity. But that doesn't automatically make it a sport. _________________

then they should make the video game olympics! with DDR as a main attraction. then there could be the arcade game music decathlon! ddr, iidx, keyboardmania, drummania, guitar freaks, mambo a go go, para para, ez2dancer, pump it up, and finally dance maniax. that would be awesome. _________________

Yes. But being a video game doesn't automatically disallow it from being a sport.
The "is ddr a sport" has no definate answer. Some people will say yes, some people will say no. Assuming that we could all agree for a moment that it IS a sport, it being in the olympics is far beyond ridiculous. There are a lot of other sports that would be considered before DDR. |

Yep. It's been two months. Time for another "olympic" thread...
It will never happen. It's just a game.
I would like to watch ANY video game being expertly played, not just DDR. There should be a TV show or something like this. Sweet. |

YOu guys should be ashamed. Video games can easily be sports, they have that competitive edge, and if there are enough people playing it who want to be competitive, it can certaintly be a sport.
For example CAL or OGL. Counterstrike! This game is played for money in some cases! Just cuz its a video game doesnt mean it isnt a sport. Jeeezz, such pesemistic people here. |

DOnt say you agree, explain why you agree, hence making your post worth reading. I explained why I think it could be a sport, now you explain? Or should I just assume the rest of your posts are completely worhtless like this one and continue to ignore your posts? |

So all he has to do is give a crappy example like the one in your post? Sounds easy enough |

Well at least it's something worth reading. I meen, that's what a message board is for right? Expressing eachothers thoughts, not just posting for self gratification. |

Just because an activity is competitive, that doesn't make it a sport. Just because DDR requires you to use more physical activity than most videogames, that still doesn't take away from the fact that "it's still just a videogame". I doubt that the world is going to accept any videogame as a sport, since they're mostly just simulations of the real things.
Counterstrike tournaments where you win big money.. that's still just a videogame tournament, not a sporting event. That's how it is now. I dunno about the future, but for now:
Videogames are not sports. _________________

Some of the Olympics arent even shown on t.v.... and others are shown at 3 a.m. or on cable.... like curling, equestrian (horse jumping), synchronized swimming....Wouldnt you rather be watching the best
DDR players in the world or weak *ss events that dont even make you sweat.... |

Once again, I doubt that the public would want to turn on their TVs just to watch two people step on arrows accurately. I mean, curling wouldn't be in the Olympics if it didn't have a huge fanbase and following.
Also, there is very little strategy or improvement involved in DDR. Unless you're crippled or have a medical condition, anybody's capable of AAAing any song out there with enough practice. The only thing "competitive" about it is AAAing a song before your friend or rival does. There is a limit as to how far you can get good at the game, which is why I don't want to consider the game a "sport". _________________

...
I'm not even going to bother.
I dont think it should be an olympic soprt cuz it isnt even a sport to begin with, its a video game that incorperates excercise. Are you HAPPY now? |

All of those events you just listed take more dedication and training than DDR ever will, regardless of whether or not they are televised.

You might not understand this, but most the world has better things to do than watch people play DDR. Get a job and see what I am talking about.

Whether or not you sweat does not determine how much training is needed to become the best at an event. Chess, which almost was and still might become an Olympic event, takes an incredible amount of training even though it doesn't require any physical activity.
I think what I am trying to get at is in order for something to be an Olympic event it has to require more skill than smashing four arrows. |

I don't think it would ever make it as an olympic sport..In the olympics the sports are all world wide, but I don't think DDR would be as popular (or even known) in countries other than the USA and Japan. Plus, I just can't image it happening. |
