if DDR didnt have the bar, the arrows came side to side instead of up to down, and the arrows faced different directions than they are now?

If they started DDR out differently than

it would feel normal. If they suddenly changed it, then it would feel strange. See, it depends on when the differences start.

Think about it, what if DDR was like upside down and you had to like stand on your head and hit the arrows with your feet. Or maybe if there was double ddr, where you had to hit a pad above you wtih your hands and a pad under ou with your feet. Or a DDR cube, where you had ddr to the side back and all over.

Then there are variations on the normal thing. Instead of double pad, triple pad. Or even better, 4 pads arranged in a square! oh the wonderfulness!
