|
|
OK, so I'm at the game room here at UNC Charlotte and there's a DDR machine, but instead of having up, down, left and right arrows, it's got arrows in the 4 diagonals and a pressable step in the middle. I didn't catch the name of it, but I think I've seen them elsewhere in Charlotte. Anyone care to enlighten me as to what these are and if they're worth learning? Thanks. |

Yeah, I've heard of them, never actually seen one though. I thought it was dance with intensity, but I guess i was wrong. |

Ah yes, Pump It Up! Pump It Up=A Lot of fun, really hard, and a lot of money!
But yes, I LOVE that game! I was first introduced to it by my friend not too long ago who is a big Pump It Up playere, when I first saw it, I was like, "HOLY COW! It's DDR on crack!" But yeah, you should try it sometime, its really challenging! _________________

And yes, it is VERY hard. _________________

It's also just a cheap korean ddr knock off that nobody likes, with a lousy song selection, rediculous looking bars, and a horrible scoring system. Most people would assume the people behind it would just give up so DDR can have its Korean songs back..

*I* like Pump. Granted, I like DDR better, but I still go play Pump instead of DDR sometimes. There are some great songs on there, it's harder than DDR, and it lends itself more for freestyling. _________________

I was under the impression that Pump It Up came out first.
Personally I've never seen a machine, but I'd like to try it! _________________

Entitled to my opinion, I hated PIU. But if you guys enjoy it, I won't hold you against it. |

PIU is cool (or it used to be till we got premiere3 over here in the UK). I swear it has killed off all the freestylers over here! Well maybe not all?Anyways what versions of PIU do you guys have over in the US? |

It's a bit surprising to me when I realize I'm seemingly in the minority. I tried PIU and hated it. I'm sure for someone who has played it for a while, it's fun; but I just couldn't get the hang of it. Too difficult for a mediocre DDR player like myself. _________________

Considering a huge majority of the songs (except the one's by Banya...at least to my knowledge)....ARE actually Korean songs.
I mean what's not to like?? Other than those "caution" drops........which is what I think hitting all 5 panels at once is called.
....even though I suck at the game, I love the music! _________________

Why are there so many people who feel such incredibly passionate hatred towards PIU? It's just a video game. If you don't like it, you don't like it. That's fine. But anything beyond "it's not fun" is just childish. |

What about that Techno Motion game or whatever, with 8 or 9 panels? Has anyone tried it? I saw it at an arcade in Laughlin, Nevada, but I didn't get a chance to play it |

A Caution drop actually comes from the song "Caution" on full doubles. At a couple points in the song, it's two opposite diagonals (either UL + DR or UR + DL), then the middle button, then the other set of diagonals. So people often hit the first set with their feet, keep there feet there, drop down and hit the middle with a knee, and then slap their hands next to them to get the other set of diagonals. Umm...yeah, that's what a Caution drop is.
Yes, the music in Pump is cool.
RE: versions, we have all sorts over here, although in my area it's NOWHERE near as widespread as DDR. There are a bunch of Premiere 3's that have popped up here too. _________________

Actually, if it weren't for Techno motion, i never would have even gotten into DDR. I tried the 8 panel mode after doing many rounds of 4 pannel (DDR style). IT WAS DUMBFOUNDING . I failed very quickly, being the beginning DDR player i was. The arrows are pretty small when you have it on 8 pannel, also. Thank you Techno Motion for introducing me to the wonderful world of DDR. |

Actually, I HEARD (not saying it's anything more than just a rumor!) That bemani sued, or tried to sue the makers of Pump It Up for some sort of copy right infringement on DDR. Yeah, I heard they almost won, but Pump It Up found some sort of loophole and won out against bemani, hence, why we all still have Pump It Up machines. As for the music, I Love DDR music, I really do, but Pump It Up puts DDR music to shame. _________________
