New Pads

I just recently got DDRMAX for my PS2 and have really started getting into it. I got some cheap soft pads off ebay to start with and i have modded one. It does notn work as well as i would like it to though. sometimes it will constant keep registering left or something and make me miss or get goods instead of perfects.It has become very annoying. I am now thinking it might be time to look into maybe better pads. i am still learnign and only doing 4 and 5 star songs on ligt but my modded pad does mess me up. I dont know if i should go for some ignition pads or metal. If i go metal i am not sure if i should build them or by some. I know if i buy them they will either be cobalt or maybe the red octanes. So what all do you guys think i should do?
