Hey, I'm a DDR Noob, started three days ago. Played flash flash revolution a bit, and then went up to stepmania..really fun game, even on the keyboard biggrin.gif. Well, i started light and today worked my way up to heavy..Only songs i can truly perfect so far are songs like Xanadu and Follow the Sun on heavy..but i started to watch freestyle videos and now i really want to play on a pad..figured i'd go with a good metal one to prepare me for the arcade..anyone have a reccomendation of either of these? Thanks in advance

If you have the money and want a pad that will last go for a CF. If you don't have alot of money and don't mind a pad that might not last for more than a month then go with a BNS.

here's the truth.

If you want a good pad, and you won't feel slightly embarassed at spending 300+ dollars, then buy a cobalt. It is a good pad, supposedly.

now, If you want to risk it and pay less than half of that for a BNS pad, (there are no reviews, this pad is fresh out the oven.) then buy a BNS pad.
If you can wait until late september, I'll give you my opinion on this pad, but so far I'm already sold

1. The metal border. (True arcade feel for practicing doubles)

2. They use polycarbonate panels now. (Will not break, same as cobalt)

3. The price (like you need an explanation)

4. And an outside wire box (just like cobalt)

It seems to me that BNS simply copied all of Cobalts good ideas, plus threw in the cool arcade exact metal border.

If you can at all afford it, go for a CF. Nothing can really match the CF's button setup (sheet metal contacts as opposed to foil tape or pressure sensors). I'm not sure what this new BNS pad uses, but if the fact that it's not mentioned on their web site means anything, I'm pretty sure it's using the same old foil-tape setup that the CG pads always have.

And above all other reasons, in the unlikely event that *anything* goes wrong with your CF, 99% of all of your problems can be fixed with a simple screwdriver. The CF team will personally walk you through diagnosing and fixing your problem via e-mail if it requires more in-depth actions, but in all honesty, there's not much there that can break. The infamous "SUV test" that Matt of the CF team did was to run over a CF a few times with his Ford Explorer. It still played perfectly. On the CF forums, I was amused to see a handful of happy customers that claimed they'd go out and tape themselves running their pads over, then go back inside and AA MAX 300 on them E15.gif

Listen not to cryptoddrfweak, he has already shown how little people should listen to him in this thread: http://www.ddrfreak.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=71232

I would highly recommend a CobaltFlux pad. It isn't going to break, ever. You won't have to worry about ever having to buy a new pad. Maintenance, yes. And even after your warrenty you'll still have great customer support from the CF staff.

Now, if you don't want to spend $340, and are up for risking getting a possibly flaky pad from a company not known for good products in the past, go ahead and check out that new BNS pad. You can read a lot of places on these forums about people who've had many a problem with previous BNS pads, and it wouldn't surprise me if this new pad had issues also. Companies just don't change overnight.

But as always, its up to you, make what you think is the right decision.

Metal pad discussion goes in that thread.

Please everyone, let's try to keep things tidy. E1.gif
