The PERFECT DDR Party...

Hi, everyone! I just wanted anyone and everyone's opinion on this one: What makes the perfect DDR party? Now, let's immediately say that the party happens in someone's house (i.e. NO arcade machine on freeplay). So, given that a PSX or PS2 with the DPR2 pad (heck, let's make it two) will be used and that people with varying levels of skill come in, what shall we do to make this the best party ever? No holds barred! Offer opinions on EVERYTHING from food to songs to mixes to speaker systems! If you think it should be there, say so! Let's see how interesting/wild/innovative/lucrative we can make this party, even if it is only figurative. We're all listening, so suggest away!

Hmmm, at my friends party, (wasnt a ddr party, just a b-day party) he had his garage turned into a dance room, a DJ, one of those colored ball thingys, and strobe lights. And in the lving room, he had various snacks, chips and dip- ya know, the usual party snacks. I brought my ddr pad, my friend brought his mix and his PSX, it was pretty cool, when people first played, there was a lot of people watching, cheering them on and having a good time. Even a few people who have never played before went up and gave it a shot. Then someone brought a PS2 and people started playing GT3.

well, that second post sounded like fun. and just leave it up to gt3 to liven things up. i love that game. oh yeah, and porn sounds fun too.

you know what you should really have at a ddr party, lots of gatorade/powerade and water. and towels. metal pads wouldnt hurt either. also, if you have a home theater system, hooking the game up to that would be suuuuuuuuper.

Don't forget ample space and taking care of neighbors... neighbors usually don't want the party. And for anyone who cares, heavy drinking and DDR DO NOT MIX. Especially if you are using metal pads...

There's one tomorrow night....

From the sound of it there's usually 4 tvs set up... practically the entire community in this area is supposed to be there. I was asked to bring my metal pads over, as well as I've offered my Jps2, JMax, JMax 2 and 3rd Mix. I know someone's got a nice stack of Beatmania and a controller they're bringing. It's gonna be more of a Let's all see the college people off the right way.

* Keep it relatively alcohol-free. Puke on pads is bad.
* Our dorm had a DDR party/competition once, and we bought pads specifically for it. The whole shebang started off with a ceremonial "reading the Engrish instructions that come with the pads," which pretty much set the mood during the whole thing.
* Other stuff to do to kill time while you're waiting for your turn in line. One suggestion that has never failed is a bad movie. Rent that Britney Spears movie, or that American Idol movie, or that Mariah Carey movie, or Mission: Impossible 2, and allow people the chance to mock it relentlessly while they await their turn in line. It keeps the social atmosphere up, and people aren't left feeling bored if they aren't too good at socializing with other people.

Danger-dude also has a lot of good suggestions. A kickass sound system for the DDR pads is good. Lots of water-replenishing drinkies is good. Metal pads are good. Do not pour water-replenishing drinkies on metal pads.

, not to mention metal pads, and a really good sound system would kick too. But i honestly think that if your gonna use the whole video game theme to it, I would say get a bunch of comps together and have one huge @$$ Unreal Tournament LAN partay! Hehe, ddr and unreal, yup, that's a party

...not to mention curly fries, some pepsi, water, and some KFC, heck 'sha mean

...no porn, a bunch of sweaty DDR players and comp geeks all looking at porn at the same time seems kiiiiiinda freakay....
