I'm a big fan a DDR... DDR has helped me improve myself in alot of ways, making me more in shape.. but probably the way it's helped me the most is in my stamina... In the spring of last year at school, i considered myself quite out of shape.. i was running about a 9 minute mile.. but then soon after all that i started playing DDR... about every other day for an hour or more... which helped me out alot with the whole stamina thing... then i decided to start taking up running about a week ago, and i'm running a 7 minute mile! Isn't that crazy? Since DDR was my only real form of exercise throughout that period, i give it all the credit for trimming 2 minutes off my mile.. Has anyone else had simular experiences? I may be wasting everyones time, but i just thought it was cool...
By the way, I passed Max 300 on heavy for the first time last night... which made me pretty happy.. |

Think of Paranoia Survivor as sprinting--it draws on your readily-available energy. Playing multiple hours draws more on your body's stored energy.
Just as a world-class sprinter won't be guaranteed excellent times on distance running (and vice-versa), the ability to play ten-footers is no indication that you'll be able to play for hours on end (and vice-versa). _________________

lets_maxx, if you want to be better at long distance, do a lot of oni courses. I was 6 seconds away from beating my first one. got a good, end of story. |

you know, congratulations! a 7 minute mile is pretty damn good. i used to run that in track and lower but now i'm a sprinter.. doing 400M and stuff. ... i suck at distance. chopping 2 minutes off is very very sweet.
i started running before i got into ddr, but having the endurance and stuff really helped. i can play ddr a hell of a lot longer than some of my friends and go for long periods without water (which MIGHT be bad..) but i'm sure that could happen to anyone in shape, whether they run or not.
as for ddr helping endurance/distance running.. i think it really really really helps to build leg muscle and it really tones it up...and...well.. helps you out and makes you a lot quicker because your muscles are strong. (duh ) but i personally don't think it helps with breathing patterns.. that was the biggest factor in me getting to be a better runner... just because with wrong breathing patterns i started cramping up and slowing down.
anyways, congratulations again ;D _________________

If you want to improve your running speed and stamina, you have to play DDR consistently. You can't take breaks. You have got to play a challenging song 1 after the other until your exercise session is over. |

i used to be able to play ddr for like 5 hours a day, before my pad started sucking ass. now i play maybe once every 2 weeks. i cant even go to the arcade anymore since i dont have any money.
anyway, i havent run a timed mile for like 2 years. the last time i did it, i was 180 lbs, out of shape, and only on ddr for like a month. it took an agonizing 8 and a half minutes to complete. i dont know how id do now, but i run to keep myself in shape, i play ddr, i played football, and i lost 30 lbs since the last time. im pretty sure i can run at least a 6 minute mile now. |
