Hi. I'm a sort of half newbie, half novice player ( in that I've only played for about five months but I am passing many 8 footers) and I have observed that the way I dance changes as I get better. When I first started I found it impossible to concentrate on even a 3 foot song if I didn't return to the center. Then I stopped doing that and I statrted dancing on the balls of my feet. Doing so made me unstable as I danced, but it was unavoidable because it was the only way for me to go fast enough. I twas also unavoidable to lift my legs high into the air. As I shifted into heavy mode I found myself lifting my legs less and sliding became very easy, even on songs that are 200 bpm. Now I am observing that I prefer to dance flat-footed instead of standing on the balls of my feet on some songs. Now I'm also having what I like to call 'DDR Dyslexia" in which I will see a repeated pattern of arrows and do them backwards by accident ( this happens a lot in Trip Machine Climax- Standard mode). Has anyone else observed similar patterns in their development as a player? If you have already passed these stages, do you know what will probably come next? I'm having trouble overcoming some problems that are keeping me from getting AA's and passing catas, so I need to know what to do so I can beat MAX 300 Heavy and other catas. Thanks, and here's a list of my greatest accomplishments to date.
Holic-Heavy A
Can't Stop Fallin' in Love- Heavy- C
Dam Dariram- Heavy B
JaneJana- Heavy B
B4U- Heavy B
Max 300- Standard- C
Healing Vision (angelic mix)- Standard B
Senorita(speedy mix) -Heavy B
And my new highest combo record is 617! I did it on the player's best nonstop course at VCC! _________________

I used to stand in the middle at the beginning, then on right left, but now I stand left - down, or whichever arrow comes first in the song (except up, the pads are too close to the screen )
And I get that same DDR Dyslexia! On the same song, too! Weird. |

I wish my dancing style would change for the better. Unfortunately, I have a high center of gravity, so I pretty much just flail about when I'm up there. I figure, when I lose s'more weight, my center of gravity will lower enough for me to NOT HAVE TO FLAIL! _________________

When I am not playing something that I want to do good on or first time passing, usually I move my hands around because I don't need that much concentration on the arrows anymore. At first, I have to work really hard just to get through a 5 footer that my arms stayed very close to my body...Which was a really bad thing.
So I did change a bit. A bit more relaxed. |

Well your style is going to improve over time as you develop a unique attack. Fundamentally, I've found you see alot of differences as you move up to passing heavy songs, then the huge style shift when you learn what PA is, then a gradual improvement in style as you incorporate different styles into your attack. _________________

I had to relearn the stepping skills because I had learned it wrong. But once you do it right, your whole style will develope as you get better. Its the techniques that are tough, such as swinging your arms to speed up your stepping to equal that of running, like for 1/32 beats. Even if you don't learn all the techs, you may end up pumping your arms for the , , , parts. At least I did. _________________
