I was recently told that DDR is stupid, pointless and boring by a friend of mine and need I some arguments (based upon solid facts) to argue that it is not. Help please! _________________

ok. If your friend thinks it's stupid and boring. That's his opinion. Why try and tell him his opinion is wrong? |

And would a lawyer really know about DDR?
I have seemed to forget my aunt is a lawyer, and plays DDR. _________________

Hmmmmmm trying to convince someone to change their mind about a video game is like trying to convince someone they're in love with a woman...noone can tell you, you just know it from the heart.
Also, if it's his opinion then that's personal preference Just like noone can convince me that inlining is harder than sk8boarding. My mind will always be that inlining is easier than sk8boarding by far. No matter what anyone says. I have my valid arguments for that...
but pointless?
Why not point these things out to him/her?
-Excersise
-Workout
-Weight loss (Taken to a point)
Why not point those things to him/her? _________________

If he's a fan of another BEMANI title, especially IIDX, leave him be. I too am starting to find DDR boring.
Note to self: put a large bounty on Taka's head for turning DDR freaks into IIDX freaks. *maimed* |

It's an opinion. Unless he has a life-changing experience, you probably won't be able to change his opinion.
Has he ever PLAYED DDR before, perchance? _________________

A good way to convince someone that the game is NOT stupid, pointless, and boring is to have them try it for themselves. Offer your friend to pay for his/her game, and if they still don't change their mind, then leave it at that. It's not until you try it for the first time that DDR is something completely different. |

You can't help things like that. People will always have different opinions and you can't take down every single one of them. Barring that, pointless? Yeah, but if it was pointless then tons of people of all ages wouldn't play it and I just can't understand how a machine with no AI to begin with can possibly be called out for having a flawed one.
However, there's no defense against boring. That's subjective and everybody feels it at some point. Down here in Simi, a lot of the good players are just plain getting fed up with Extreme and really miss the songs we were obsessed with on MAX2. And you can't name off some hard song...we have people who can beat everything. If you can't beat something and you're stuck on another plateau, it's a wonderfully bad idea to try and fail that song over and over again if you can't even come close.
And the failed attempt to start a DDR Club just lowered the game immensely in my eyes. |

Uh... you can't prove his opinion wrong with facts because it's just that--an opinion. |

I need some more information. Has your friend ever actually played DDR. If he hasn't he has no right to say that DDR is "stupid, pointless, and boring. However if he has played DDR find out what he didn't like about it. If he has played DDR before then there isn't much you can do, except offer him a free game or just tell him that DDR is a great workout. |

If you have the right to say that ddr is cool then he has the right to say it isn't. Just because you differ in opinions doesn't make either of you wrong.
Besides, what country do you live in...U.S.? Yeah thats what I thought, take a better look at our constituton and civil rights.

I have the right to say DDR is cool because I have played. I have given it a fair chance. If I played and figured the game is lame then I would also have the right to say that because I have still tried it for myself. If you don't play a certain game and then say the game in question is lame, you are full of it. Simple as that. |

I'm not a lawyer, but I have taken Law courses and this wasn't what I thought it was going to be.
But yea, I have a BF who hates DDR w/ a passion (funny that some of you are thinking why the Hell am I dating him when I'm a huge fan of DDR and eve cosplayed as a DDR character for anime conventions) and says that a lot of time when I play it or even mention it. I just deal... few people think DDR isn't cool. Why? Because most of them suck at it! |
